LAB 2: CABLING AND IP ASSIGNMENT

Objective:

 To understand use of different wired media (Cables).


 To connect network devices like routers and switches, and end devices like PCs or
 Laptops and servers with appropriate cables.
 To assign IP address in PC and Server.
 To check successful connectivity between two PCs in LAN using Ping command.
Theory:
Cable is a physical media that are used to transmit information in data communications which is
usually made up of copper or glass.
Ethernet Cabling
There are generally three types of cables:

 Straight-through cables:
They are generally used to connect dissimilar devices together, may be a host to switch or hub
and a router to switch or hub.

 Crossover cables:
They are used to connect similar devices together, may be a switch to a switch or a hub to
another hub ,host to a host.

 Rollover cables:
They are used to connect a host a router’s console COM port for router configuration.
