Another version tells that, a long time ago, the Playa Los Muertos area was a great cemetery, a place
to honor those who had passed away ... When the population grew and the town of "Las Peñas"
emerged, they had to move the cemetery to another location. But it is not known if the area called
"cemetery" continues there after so many years. the name stayed that way because of the cemetery
that existed at that time.
The third legend mentions that a long time ago when Puerto Vallarta was just a small port, pirates
came to hide their treasures, but one day with a full moon, the captain who was the only one who
knew where the treasure was could no longer remember, and all His riches were buried, when he
saw that he found nothing, he sent the other pirates to search. After long hours a good pirate found a
great fortune, it was treasure. Seeing that it was too much, he did not want to share it, then all the
pirates grabbed each other fighting for the loot, according to legend no one survived and when they
saw so many dead they called it Playa los Muertos
