Tele Nursing was born not long after Mr Bell made that call and had juice, expanded to
use fax, email internet video monitoring and interaction and video service.
Any service typically provided by the nurse that can also be delivered via technology is
within the domain of tele health nursing as to access quality and cost effective of health
care delivery has improved so as the demand to tele nursing practices.
Tele nursing has come along way since the late 1970 when HMO use telephone triage
and advice service to control access to consumers care, at that time, tele-health nursing
was not quite on the radar.
In 2017, 2s increases in health care cost show no sign of slowing down tele health nursing
can include surveillance and monitoring for disease management , care management and
clinical prevention program.
DEFINITION
The nursing is refer to the use of information technology in the provision of nursing
service when physical distance exist between patient and nurse or between any number
nurses.
1. VIDEO CONFERENCING
Utilizing internal technology, video conferencing allows healthcare providers such
as nurse practioners to speak face to face with patients. Video conferencing is best
used for consulting, conducting mental health evaluations and diagnosing basic
ailments.

Internet technology also allows health care providers to read scans, watch pre-
recorded videos of patients and review charts from just about anywhere.
3. REMOTE PATIENT MONITORING ( RPM)
RPM is any technology that designed to monitor a patient’s medical issues, such as
blood pressure, blood sugar, heart –rate, e.t.c, it can help healthcare providers
track patients health data without the need for numerous appointments.
4. MOBILE HEALTH
Smart phones and tablets technology allow patients to use application that provide
health choices, such as calorie intake and exercise
ADVANTAGES OF TELE-NURSING
1. It’s convenient; with Tele nursing, Tele health, health care providers can move
between patients faster and patients can take care of appointments from home.
2. It reduces patient transfer
3. It saves money reducing the needs to travel and office space
4. It makes health services accessible to those who are home bound
5. It enhances the quality of home care, particularly for the immobilized patients
6. It enables the nurse and midwife to manage numerous chronic conditions
concurrently
7. It can increase patient engagement it makes health information on easy to obtain.
8. It also help patient to work improve lifestyle choices and comply with treatment
guidelines.

4. There can be technology barriers; Tele-nursing requires patients to have access to
appropriate technology such as laptop with good video capability.
5. It’s not good for every situation; while Tele nursing can help a health care
provider assess patients needs, many health services including surgical to physical
examination still requires a patient to see a provider in person.

SUMMARY
This work tells us about how the introduction of Tele- nursing into nursing and midwifery
practice has helped in rendering nursing care and services to patients and clients despite
distance being a barrier.
