1. In a few sentences, can you tell us what your study is all about?

Theft or Robbery is one of the major problems of today. This project is a great
solution for that problem because this proposal is about a system for monitoring a
certain room with Video Surveillance Cameras. This project uses Motion Detectors as
Video Surveillance Cameras with the help of Raspberry Pi 3. This type of Video
Monitoring System is a disguised one using discreet cameras in order to make it
unnoticeable for possible robbery attempt.

2. What is your motivation for this study?

The motivation of this study is to improve security in a private room, an office


room will be recommendable for this project. And knowing that robbers can easily
remove the modules and memories of the system, this project uses Discreet Spy
Cameras to be unnoticeable. And thinking about the limited memory for the card
modules, using the cameras as motion detectors will be a great help to save up memory
space for the card modules with the help of Raspberry Pi 3.

3. What is the Research Problem?

Theft is one of the major problems in today’s world, places like offices and other
public places are very vulnerable in these issues. Installation of Video Surveillance
System is a great solution to this subject matter.

4. How will this project contribute to the body of knowledge?

The existing body of knowledge is shown in the Current Block Diagram (Page
13), the commonly used CCTV system includes cameras then connects them to an
ethernet switch and a personal computer in order to save the data. With this existing
body of knowledge, this project proposal contributes to it by using Raspberry Pi and
Card Modules in order to remove the work station so that no security guard needed to
monitor it. The project contains Card Modules in order to save the data automatically
and when full, the admin can either move it to his/her computer or delete it.

5. What is the significance of the project?

The project significantly redounds to the office worker and any other work places
that is inside a certain room, as it monitors the security of the room and can even be a
platform for needed evidences that the admin can use.

6. Did you bridge any gap from your project?

We all know that the commonly used Video Monitoring Systems are CCTV’s then
connect it to an ethernet switch and to the computer which needs security guard to
monitor the happenings, and the CCTV cameras are obvious ones for the robbers to
remove the card modules or the camera itself. So, this project uses Card Modules with
the help of Raspberry Pi 3 for automatic data saving, and also uses Discreet camera
functioning as motion detectors in order to be unnoticed by others.

7. What limitations did you encounter?

The limitations encountered are the limited meet-ups of the researchers for the
purpose to try the project because of the pandemic. Another limitation is that the limited
camera availability that is required by the Raspberry Pi 3.

8. What are your findings?

The finding of this research is that discreet cameras used in the project can
function as motion detectors with the help of Raspberry Pi 3.
9. Based on your research findings, what are your recommendations?

It is recommended for any type of security cameras to function as motion


detectors in order to minimize data usage, because with motion detectors, it only
captures video when there is motion detected in the setting.

10. Based on your findings, what areas will you suggest for future research?

The future research can improve something in the area of improving the system
by adding triggering systems, and also alarm systems.

11. How can your research study be practically put to a certain room?

On page 15 of the study, the project contains 2 cameras, 1 located above the
door in order to have a direct vision of the person that enters the room, and another one
is located at the corner of the room to see the entire range of the room.

12. What would you change if you were to make the project again?

There is nothing to change in the project, just improve something in it, like adding
some triggering or alarm system.

13. What are the main materials needed for the project?

The main materials needed for the project are, Raspberry Pi 3, 32 GB micro SD
card, Power supply, and 2 cameras that are compatible for Raspberry Pi 3.
14. What source of data was employed for the study?

The source of data employed in the study are mostly websites and research
papers in the google scholar. Specific data source is located in the last pages of the
research project paper, the References.

15. What theories or theoretical framework is your study based on?

This project is based on the evolution of CCTV systems and its innovation as the
technology also innovates. And this project belongs to the Fully Digital IP Cameras
wherein this system is fully digital and doesn’t include any analog component that
significantly simplified the installation and maintenance of the system.

16. How would you relate your findings to existing theories on the study?

The findings of this project is related with the existing theories of Fully Digital IP
Camera system that does not include any analog component with the help of Raspberry
Pi 3.

17. What recommendations do you have for future research?

This research project is a platform for further researches in the future, because it
has many ways to improve in many other areas like trigger systems, alarm systems,
notification systems, and other systems to be added.

18. What is the scope of the study?

The scope of the study is limited only for indoor setting because if the project is
placed on the outdoor setting, there is a lot of motion detected in the camera, and the
function of motion detector would be useless, because it would become a simple
camera.
19. What do you think is the average lifespan of your project?

The average lifespan of this project can go for around 2 and a half years,
because the system depends on the capacity of the 12V Power Supply. But talking
about the project system, it can still function well for more than 10 years if monitored
properly.

20. Can the Video Surveillance camera used on your system work on low light
environment?

Yes, one of the cameras used in the system is a Night-Vision Discreet camera
which is effective in low light environment.

21. Do you need any security guard to monitor the system?

No, the project does not need anyone to monitor or watch live footage of the
scene, because the system is programmed to capture video when it detects motion, and
that is with the help of Raspberry Pi 3.

22. How can you enable/disable the system?

The system functions 24/7 because it is a security system that detects motion to
capture possible theft or robbery either day or night, so it is highly discouraged to on/off
the system because of its purpose. But the system can be enabled or disabled by the
admin by simply unplugging or plugging in the power cable from the Power Supply.

23. What happens if the Card Modules become full?


If ever the SD card becomes full storage, it triggers and automatically be deleted,
it’s up to the user to save the video file to the computer or just completely delete the
unwanted file.

The system is effective for possible theft because it has good quality cameras
that can detect clearly the face of the thief and can be easily recognized and this is a
very good way to show evidences of such scenes.

26. What is the main purpose of the project?

The main purpose of the project is simply to improve security in a private room or
an office room, by this video monitoring system using Raspberry Pi 3. This is extremely
effective for theft and robbery issues.

27. Is this project subject for privacy issues?

This project is not subject for privacy issues, because the system is installed in a
private room or office room of the admin, and the only one who can access the system’s
file storage is the admin himself/herself. And with that, privacy issue is not a problem in
this project.

28. Does the system need more cables or is it wireless?

The system is not wireless, but it does not need long wire cables, it only needs
short ones, just to connect the materials needed in the project.
29. Is the quality of the camera good enough for evidences?

The quality of the camera is about 5MP, and that is good enough for evidences
because it can detect clearly the faces in the scene.

30. Can the coverage of both the cameras cover the entire room?

Yes, on page 15 of the study, the project contains 2 cameras, 1 located above
the door in order to have a direct vision of the person that enters the room, and another
one is located at the corner of the room to see the entire range of the room.

31. Is the project costly?

The project may sound a bit costly, it may range from P3000 – P4000. But
considering the risk of possible theft or robbery, installing security system like video
monitoring system can help prevent such risks and is really good for evidences to detect
the thief.

32. Why use discreet cameras instead of any other type of cameras?

Discreet CCTV cameras are beneficial because criminals will be less likely to
spot them and therefore, they are less likely to be damaged in the process. Other
benefits of discreet CCTV cameras include: Can be propped up or mounted Can be
disguised in various objects.

33. Why use Raspberry Pi than any other microcomputer?

Raspberry Pi is ideal for creating projects. We can use it when we need


computers but not advanced processing and hence save space. Raspberry Pi can be
used as an alternative to a desktop or even use it as a photography tool at a low cost. 
34. Out of all project you can think of, why Video Monitoring System?

The commonly known video monitoring system are way to obvious for serious
criminals and the cameras are more likely to spot by them, and they can immediately
destroy the camera or even the system itself. So, with this concern, increasing the
security using discreet camera is an effective one for possible serious crime.

35. Why use 2 cameras, and not 1 or more than 2?

Different camera modules and lenses are better to capture different angles at the
same time, and can even capture wider range for the scene, so using 2 cameras
instead of 1 is better. And using more than 2 cameras can be costly. Using 2 cameras is
already enough to cover the entire room, using 3 or more cameras can be impractical.

36. Can the project be used for home security?

The project is also useful for security at home, especially when no one’s home, in
order to detect motion while the family’s away, and can capture possible crimes that
happen while no one’s home. Because theft usually happens at night or when
everyone’s sleeping or when no one’s home.

37. What places are restricted for installing this project?

The installation of this project is restricted to areas where you should not record
like: Bathrooms; Shower areas; Bedrooms; Locker rooms; Changing rooms. Because It
is illegal to record a person, with or without their consent, in these private areas in any
places. All of these is to avoid opposition of everyone’s right of privacy.

38. What are to be improved in this project?


There are lots to be improved in this project, one thing is the notification system
of the project wherein it notifies the admin when there is motion detected in the live
scene.

39. Cite one weakness of the project.

One weakness of the project is that it can capture unwanted motion like the
admin doing something inside the room, and with this video monitoring system, it
captures the unwanted footage, and with that, it would waste a lot of space in the SD
card.

40. Cite one strength of the project.

One strength of this project is that it is a disguised one, wherein criminals can’t
spot them during a robbery scene, which is extremely effective for theft issues around
the world. Another strength is that it can save space, because it is motion detecting
surveillance camera, only starts the video when there is motion detected, it is better
than a video surveillance system that is always on.

41. Is your project safe to install?

The project is both easy and safe to install, just connecting the wires of each
materials then put on desired area of the room, suggested area to install in the room is
found on page 15 of the paper. The only hard thing to do in the project is programming
the raspberry pi 3.

42. Did you all have the materials and equipment you need for the project?
Yes, the materials and equipment were met by the researchers to complete the
project. But still, limited camera availability was a struggle to be used in the project.

43. Did you just have a reasonable amount of time to finish your project?

It is a bit hard to finish the project with such amount of time, because of the
current situation were facing, the pandemic, sometimes traveling is a struggle with the
researchers to have a meet-up and plan for the project. But still, it is manageable
through online platforms to communicate with one another.

44. Can this project somehow help our current situation right now, this
pandemic? How?

This project can still be helpful even amidst the pandemic,
