TYPES OF WALL TREATMENTS/FINISHES
PAINT
Paints are thin coatings applied to surfaces in a liquid form. Paint dries and becomes flexible solids. They
have many uses, the protection of the surface from sunlight, dampness, dust, abrasion, and weathering.
They provide easily cleanable surfaces that help keep the substrates clean and tidy.
Eggshell: Eggshell finishes are a very popular paint finish. They’re slightly more lustrous than flat
paints (with the delicate low sheen of an eggshell), they still cover imperfections, and they’re more
durable than flat finishes (though still not quite as durable as satin or gloss finishes).
Semi-gloss: Semi-gloss paints are shiny and reflective. They’re extremely durable and mildew-
resistant, so they’re best used in rooms that get a lot of wear and tear or moisture, like kids’ rooms,
kitchens, and bathrooms.
Enamel paint :- It is usually used to coat metallic and wooden finishes/surfaces. It has a hard, glossy and
opaque finish. It can also be painted on walls to protect them from tough conditions.
Disadvantages of Paint:-
Paint also chips and cracks over time, so you will need to reapply and touch up your paint job more
often
It also can be messy to apply paint to walls, and you can easily stain your floors, ceilings, furniture
or appliances
Use of poor quality paint may lead to more expenses in future
WALLPAPER
Wallpapers are ornamental and utilitarian covering for walls made from long sheets of paper that have
been stenciled, painted, or printed with abstract or narrative designs. The most classic use of wallpaper
is to cover all the walls in a space. The key to making it work is to erase the memories of the garish patterns
of the 1970s and the delicate florals of the 1980s and think in terms of contemporary colors, patterns, and
styles.
Types of Wallpapers:-
Lining Paper: The main purpose of lining paper is to cover minor imperfections on a surface before
painting it or to hide a strong colour previously applied to walls or ceilings before a lighter colour wallpaper
or paint is to be applied.
Traditional Wallpaper: They are very affordable and accessible, can be literary found in any design
store. However, the colours fade away in the sun, and they are not washable.
Embossed Wallpaper: Textured and embossed wallpapers add depth and an interesting contrast to
plain walls. The textures can range from delicate and soft fabric inspired imprints through to dramatic
geometrics.
Price of Rs. 2500/- per roll average
Liquid Wallpaper: They consist of cellulose and cotton fibre. Have to be applied in a liquid form with the
help of a special pallet. Such wallpaper have a high level from the clutch surface that allows their use even in
rooms with uneven walls, defects and cracks on the surface.
Price: Rs. 2200/- per roll average
Non-Woven wallpaper: The non woven wallpapers are the latest trend in decorating. Non-wovens are
made of a special blend of natural and synthetic fibres, making them washable and breathable.
Fibreglass Wallpaper: As name suggests they are made of glass fibres woven and bonded together to
form a sheet material. Due to the way wallpaper is produced they are incredibly strong and provide a great
reinforcement to any wall or ceiling. Made from natural nontoxic materials like quartz, soda, lime and
dolomite they are considered to be a green product too.
FABRIC
According to modern interior designing concept some fabrics are widely chosen by interior decorators for
making interior decoration and these fabrics are silk, chiffon, organza, and stretch fabrics.
Types of Fabric:-
Silk: Silk is a classy fabric option. It is soft and flowy. You may find silk used in bed linen, curtains and
upholstery. However, it is very delicate and wrinkles quickly. It can also get stained easily and requires a lot
of care.
Rayon: In terms of texture, rayon is similar to silk. It is smooth and soft, but it is sturdier than silk. It is also
commonly used in curtains and upholstery.
Polyester: This is a very sturdy material that is often used for interior decoration. Polyester is easy to use,
long-lasting and resistant to stains.
Wool: Like silk, wool is a fabulous-looking material that adds grace and class to a home. You can get
beautiful woollen rugs, that not only feel soft but also look like a million dollars.

fabric has the power to transform any bleak living area into a cosy and relaxing setting.

Wood Panelling
It is a decorative treatment of walls, ceilings, doors, and furniture consisting of a series of wide, thin sheets
of wood, called panels, framed together by narrower, thicker strips of wood. The latter are called styles
(the external vertical strips), muntins (the internal vertical strips), and rails (the horizontal strips).
Board And Batten: The word “batten” refers to the piece of molding that’s placed over the joint
between the board. It adds a touch of sophistication to any room. As with all wall paneling , find
freedom in painting these pieces whatever color you desire. But cost is a bit expensive.
Tongue And Groove: The look is clean and cohesive. Tongue and groove is an excellent way to
keep dirt and dust out. A downside of using tongue and groove wall paneling is the time required for
installation.
Beadboard: This decorative style of wood paneling features evenly spaced grooves along the
paneling. Apply the paneling the full height of the wall or partially, depending on the look you wish to
achieve.
MOLDING
Molding, or moulding is a strip of material with various profiles used to cover transitions between surfaces
or for decoration. It is traditionally made from solid milled wood, plaster, plastic or reformed wood.
Analysis of shape is one way to classify mouldings.
Chair Rails: Quite like skirting, chair rails are also installed for functional purposes- this time cutting
through the wall. The benefit of this type of molding is in the name– chair rails protect walls from furniture
such as chairs sweeping back.
Crown Molding: This type of molding sits at the joint where the ceiling and walls meet. It is a great
chance to introduce motifs and shapes into the room without immediately drawing attention
.
Casing: Designed to conceal not-so-pretty gaps between windows or doors and walls, casing is a fairly
common type of wall molding.
Coving: Coving is a lesser ornate version of crown molding that is also common in Indian homes. It’s a
plain trim that’s concave in shape and usually has a few step-like details, but nothing more
.
Advantages of Molding :-
