ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING

COMPLETION 1.1: ENGINEERING AND SUSTAINABILITY

Name:

BARRETTO, ANGELI JOY B.

Explain how population and urbanization affect environmental systems. Relate this to how population and urbanization affect
engineering practice.

Natural processes are harmed as a result of population expansion and urbanization.

Environmental issues include poor air quality, low water supply, and disruption of wild animal natural

habitats. As cities grow, their environmental and ecological footprints grow as well. Pollution of

neighboring landscapes and wetlands occurs as a result of waste from urban areas. As population

growth increases, so do waste management issues and electricity use, which have an effect on

engineering practices. Good city planning is important in dealing with these issues; it is a difficult task for

individuals to deal with these engineering practices. Waste is being produced in large quantities in small

areas due to growing population. The transportation and disposal of these wastes demands a high level

of engineering capability.
