Course Description
The Health Education Course is designed to enhance the awareness & knowledge of healthy lifestyle
choice. The six adolescent risk behaviors will be addressed while advocating for the student to make
healthy choices for their overall health. The adolescent risk behaviors are below:
1. Tobacco and Vape Use
2. Dietary Patterns that contribute to disease.
3. Sedentary lifestyles.
4. Sexual behaviors.
5. Alcohol and drug use.
6. Behaviors that result in intentional or unintentional injury.

Health Education Alabama State Objectives


1. Analyze technology for its influence on consumer health & health care.
2. Describe ways to advocate for a healthy environment.
3. Describe globs environmental issues.
4. Identify personal, financial and legal responsibilities of parenthood.
5. Identify common causes of disability and premature death.
6. Demonstrate CPR & AED techniques and other first aid skills.
7. Recognize personal responsibility for lifelong health.
8. Identify symptoms, methods of treatment & management of mental health disorders, depression &
stress.
9. Describe significant life events that impact mental & emotional health.
10. Analyze social & cultural messages about food & eating for their influence on nutrition choices.
11. Describe prevention & management strategies for acute & chronic health conditions.
12. Explain prevention methods for communicable diseases and infections.
13. Explain the progression of HIV infection to AIDS.
14. Interpret federal, state & local laws as they relate to the purchase, sale, use & possession of alcohol,
tobacco & other drugs.
15. Identify effects on health & behavior regarding the use of chemical substances, including
prescription drugs, over-the-counter drugs, alcohol & tobacco.
16. Explain physiological effects of chemical substance on health and behavior.
Units of Instruction
Unit 1: Empathy
Unit 2: Mental Health & Stress Unit 5: Alcohol & Drug use
Unit 3: Tobacco & Vape use Unit 6: Conflict Resolution
Unit 4: Nutrition Unit 7: First Aid & CPR

Expectations:
1. Obey all rules in the student handbook.
2. Be on time.
3. Bring materials to class.
4. Keep area clean.
5. Show respect to classmates and teacher.
6. Participate in classroom discussions.

Classroom Procedures:
1. When the bell rings, all students should be seated silently in their desk ready to start class.
2. Every class begins with a prayer.
3. Students will follow instructions and be engaged throughout the lesson: this will include taking
notes, following along during lectures, and answering questions both verbally or on the board.

Academic Dishonesty
Students are expected to be academically honest at all times. No forms of dishonesty will be permitted.
Cheating of any kind, including sharing homework and plagiarism violates our school policy. Students
who are guilty of academic dishonesty will receive no credit for the assignment, the incident will be
documented on the student record, and parents will be notified. For further detail, please see page 26 of
the Student Handbook.

Acceptable use of Technology


The following rules will be observed in regard to technology use in the classroom.
1. You are responsible for a charged battery, wifi issues, and app issues that may arise
2. No earphones
3. Bluetooth must be on at all times
4. No games
