ABSTRACT

This study has the goal to have a conceptual design of a water park where the

people of Saguiaran and even Lanao del Sur as well can have a water activities for

recreational purposes which is necessary for both physical and mental wellbeing of a

person and having leisure at the same time. This study deals the problems of the lot

area and the appropriate design for the proposed water park for the municipality of

Saguiaran.

A hundred and fifty residents who were also the evaluators of this study were

interviewed to know their visions for the proposed water park. Out from their

responses, the researchers conceptualized three possible design of water park with

amenities such as wave pool, swimming pools, water slides, water playgrounds,

splash pads, flow rider, lazy river, villas, hotel, restaurant and parking areas. The 150

respondents evaluated the designs base on the criteria given the design with the

highest rating will be the best design.

The proposed water park for the Municipaly of Saguiaran, Lanao del Sur will

have a lot area of 13,195 sq.m. The weighted mean for schemes 1,2 and 3 is 4.03,

4.13 and 4.20 respectively. Since the third scheme has the highest rating of 4.20 and

rated as excellent, therefore it is the most appropriate conceptual design of water park

for the Municipality of Saguiaran, Lano del Sur.

Scheme 3 is to be the conceptual design of water park for the Municipality of

Saguiaran, Lanao del sur which has a lot area of 13,195 sq.m. This will provide the

people a wonderful water park experience and boost the economy in the Municipality

of Saguiaran. …

CHAPTER 1

INTRODUCTION

1.1 Background of Study

Saguiaran is a landlocked municipality in the coastal province of Lanao del Sur. It is 9.9

kilometers from Marawi City and 38 kilometers from Iligan City. The municipality has a land

area of 51.35 square kilometers or 19.83 square miles which constitutes 0.38% of Lanao del

Sur's total area. Its population as determined by the 2015 Census was 24,619. This

represented 2.35% of the total population of Lanao del Sur province, or 0.65% of the overall

population of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao. Based on these figures, the

population density is computed at 479 inhabitants per square kilometer or 1,242 inhabitants

per square mile.

It is important to look for ways to balance the pressures of work and family with physical

and mental wellbeing. Aafid Gulam, a physical training instructor from Govt Degree College

Budgam, J&K, India, defines recreation as an activity of body and mind which gives relief

from tension and fatigue. According to him, a continuous doing of an activity for some hours

give us physical and mental fatigue and strain. Recreational activity relieves us of the feeling

of fatigue, restores our energy and promotes a sense of joy. He also added that without

recreation, life would be dull and miserable.

One of the perfect places where people can spend their time for recreational activities is

in a water park. As defined by Wordnik.com, it is an amusement park whose attractions

include slides, fountains, and other recreational settings involving water. Since Saguiaran is a

landlock Municipality and means that there is no beaches around, a water park would be a

perfect getaway for those who want to relieve stress and to get wet at the same time.

management/what-you-need-to-know-about-starting-a-water-park/

Designing a Water Park

After you’ve decided to move forward with building a water park, you’ll need to design it. To
determine what you can include in your design, you need to address:

 What your budget is

 What operating costs will be
 What you want to include in the park
 How much land you have

You’ll also want to define what a successful water park is to you. Is your definition of
success simply a water park that generates a profit? Or does success mean a water park that
earns enough revenue to cover its expenses and future additions or a water park that makes
enough to help subsidize other facilities in your park? Your definition of a successful water
park will impact the design of the park.

Water parks generally include three aquatic elements — rides, a capacity holder and a
children’s area.

6
1. RIDES

A water park should have rides and attractions that appeal to different age groups. Though
most guests want to take a trip down the waterslide, the thrilling attractions for teens won’t be
appropriate for young children or older adults who want to enjoy gentler attractions. You can
include attractions that anyone can enjoy, but you should also include rides that target certain
groups of visitors.

Attractions for infants and toddlers include:

 Gentle spray and water features

 Small, zero-depth pools
 Tot slides

Attractions for young children include:

 Waterslides
 Water sprayground
 Sand play
 Large play structures
 Water walks

Attractions for older children and teens include:

 Large waterslides
 Sand volleyball
 Water walks
 Open water

Attractions for young adults include:

 Intense waterslides
 Open water
 Climbing wall
 Drop slides

7
 Sand volleyball

Attractions for adults include:

 Open water
 Lap lanes
 Waterslides
 Zero-depth pool
 Spa
 Sun deck

Attractions for older adults:

 Lazy river
 Spa
 Lap lanes
 Family-friendly waterslides
 Sun deck

Rides that accommodate multiple people at once can keep families together, allowing parents
to enjoy themselves while also keeping their children at their side.

2. CAPACITY HOLDERS

A capacity holder is an area or attraction that holds many people. Though capacity holders
may not make money, they’re key to a water park’s success. A wave pool and a leisure river
are both examples of popular capacity holders. They function as the hub of the park, keeping
families entertained and having fun without the need to wait in a line.

3. CHILDREN’S AREA

A children’s area is another crucial element to a successful water park. To draw families to
your park, you need to accommodate younger visitors. Some of the bigger thrill rides can be
too overwhelming for young children, and many parents will want to keep their children with

8
them while at the park. Incorporating large water play structures, children’s pools and
spraygrounds can ensure your younger guests can have as much fun as your other guests.

Aside from rides and attractions, you’ll also need to design your park to include facilities and
support spaces, such as concessions and restrooms. While the quality of your restrooms won’t
draw visitors in, they can ensure that your visitors aren’t driven away. You’ll want to place
these spaces according to traffic flow to ensure they enhance your guests’ overall experience
in your park.

You should also consider what your plans are for expansion when you’re designing your
water park. Regardless of the number of rides you plan on having or the size of the water
park, guests enjoy a new attraction being added from time to time. When you’re designing
your park, think about where you want to place your first expansion.

Importance of Water Park Equipment

Having the proper water park equipment for bringing customers into the facility is essential.
The value and quality of water park equipment can impact the success of your business. For
quality equipment, what characteristics should you look for?

 Strong and durable: Your equipment will see a lot of use, so it needs to be up to

the task. High-quality equipment that is durable will also mean less maintenance,
repairs and replacement, which will save you money.
 Safe: Water park equipment should be designed from materials designed to
minimize injuries to keep all visitors safe.
 Professional Installation: Find a manufacturer that is qualified to install water
park equipment.

2.1.2 Getting Your Feet Wet of Water Parks

Monica Davey. (2013, June 28). Retrieved from

https://www.nytimes.com/2013/06/30/travel/getting-your-feet-wet-at-water-parks.html

9
The first moments inside a water park complex almost always jar your senses. A rush of

moist, chlorine-scented air fills your nose. Bright, cartoon colors, not to mention characters,

surround you. And then there is the continuous loop of pop tunes vying with an endless whir

of water — splashing, spraying, gurgling, rushing, dumping. On this last point, a caution to

the uninitiated: if a bell or gong sounds, it is worth glancing up since it is likely to be a

warning that some enormous vat of water overhead is preparing to dump its contents, and

everyone but you knows it.

Water parks have long been a regular part of the landscape, but their enclosed

iteration has become increasingly popular, and no region has embraced them like the Upper

Midwest. Indoor parks — or combination indoor/outdoor parks — in states like Wisconsin,

Ohio, Illinois and Minnesota have become standard getaways year-round. They are

particularly popular in summer, when the weather can range from unforgiving heat and

humidity to sporadic thunderstorms, sometimes all in the same afternoon.

“Around here, the iffy weather can happen even in the summer season, but this means

that it doesn’t have to ruin your vacation,” said Joe Eck, a general manager of Wilderness

Territory, which with its four indoor and four outdoor parks, proclaims itself the nation’s

largest indoor and outdoor water park and is situated in Wisconsin Dells, Wis., a city that

proclaims itself the Waterpark Capital of the World. (Water parks, no doubt, are part of an

industry of superlatives.)

A culture unique to these hermetic worlds has emerged — one full of people

marching purposefully through long corridors in bathrobes and flip-flops, of every

imaginable deep-fried food, and of an unstated but unending arms race to build water rides

ever more elaborate and dare-devilish. There are water park regulars, who already seem to

know all the secrets specific to each park, like where to get a towel, how to claim an

10
unoccupied seat in the mass of lawn chairs perched in front of the rides and the wisdom of

hauling in boxes, even luggage carts, stacked with cereal from home.

Though I am a native of the Midwest and the mother of two children, I am by no

means one of these veterans. Not yet anyway, though my children certainly aspire to it. Still,

in a tour of five water parks in recent months, I have gathered some crucial pointers —

enough to offer a primer for the water park novice. For nonveterans who wish to avoid the

inevitable splash from the enormous bucket, it is the first step in easing your entry.

2.2.1 “Proposed Conceptual Design of Public Park at Suarez, Iligan City Lanao

del Norte”

Mohammad Ivan P. Abdullah, Khyle Patrick J. Villareal, Gian Carlo Q. Acaylar (2020), St.
Peter’s College, Iligan City, Lanao del Norte

ABSTRACT

A park is an area of natural, semi-natural or planted space set aside for human

enjoyment and recreation or for the protection of wildlife or natural habitats.

Urban parks are green spaces set aside for recreation inside towns and cities. Suarez, Iligan

City is one of the biggest brgy in Iligan City. It cannot be denied that the brgy Suarez is

still lack of park. This study aims to determine the appropriate lot area, appropriate

location, and proper conceptual design for the proposed park area.

Due to this problem, the researchers gathered data from online sources about books

for the dimensions and areas. The researchers made three (3) schemes for the conceptual

11
design of the Park. They conducted a survey via questionnaire to determine the appropriate

scheme for the proposed Park. The questionnaire was distributed randomly to selected

respondents of Suarez, Iligan City, Lanao Del Norte.

Based on the data gathered, the respondents strongly agree that the first scheme is the

best scheme for the proposed Park at Suarez, Iligan City, Lanao Del Norte, having area of

1000 sq.meter.

The best location that is suited for the public park with regards to our location criteria,

Zone Greenhills, Suarez Iligan City with a total of 1000 sq. meter lot area has passed which

is the best fit on the criteria proposed conceptual design for the park at Suarez, Iligan City,

Lanao Del Norte.

2.2.2 “Proposed Aesthetic Conceptual Lanscape of Mt. Agad-Agad Located at

Puga-an, Iligan City”

Princess Jessa A. Tongson, Ivy H. Verdida, Joyce Ann M Villanueva (2020), At. Peter’s

College, Iligan City, Lanao del Norte

ABSTRACT

This study aims to propose an aesthetic conceptual landscape of Mt. Agad-Agad

located at Puga-an, Iligan City to attract tourists and promote tourism. Although Mt. Agad-

Agad is famous for accessible mountain climbing and overnight camping and affords a full

view of the city by night or day, it still lacks aesthetic landscape to further attract tourists for

maximum profit in tourism. With this existing problem, this study proposes an aesthetic

conceptual landscape designed to promote sustainability in tourism development.

12
In the gathering of the data, the following methods were conducted. First, the

researchers conducted an interview from people that has visited Mt. Agad-Agad for

comments and suggestions regarding the current features of the place. Second, the researchers

incorporated the comments and suggestions to serve as an outline for modification of the

landscape of Mt. Agad-Agad. Third, the researchers drafted three (3) varying schemes for

Aesthetic Conceptual Landscape based on gathered comments and suggestions. Fourth, the

researchers conducted a survey from three hundred (300) respondents for their rating of each

of the schemes based on the design criteria (Aesthetic Appeal and Appearance, Eco-friendly

Environment, Hygiene and Sanitation, Organization of Structure and Security and Safety) to

serve as option for the final concept of the proposed aesthetic conceptual landscape of Mt.

Agad-Agad. Lastly, the researchers chose the best scheme based on the result of the survey.

Results revealed that out of the 3 schemes, majority of the respondents selected the 1 st

scheme proposed.
