HISTORY

• Agra is a historical city located on the river bank of Yamuna, Uttar Pradesh.

• It was founded by Sikandar Lodhi.

• It had over a population of 1.7 million.

• This place was well-known for the Mughal era.

• Most of the Mughal generations maintained Agra as their capital.

• Agra achieved glory and prestige during the rule of Emperor Akbar.

• Agra city is full of lovely and priceless architectural and historical monuments all dignity

TIMELINE

• The first formal Mughal garden in India – 1528

• 1632–1653 – Taj Mahal

• 1556–1605 - built the modern city of Agra on the

right bank of Yamuna. Converted the city into a
great center of political, cultural and economic
importance.

• 1565 – Agra fort was built

• 1569 – Fatehpur Sikri

• 1656 – Jama Masjid

GEOGRAPHICAL FEATURES

• The region around Agra consists almost entirely of a level plain, with hills in the extreme
southwest.

• The rivers in the region include Yamuna and Chambal.

• The region is also watered by the Agra Canal

• Millet, barley, wheat and cotton are among the crops grown in the surrounding countryside.

• Both Rabi and Kharif crops are cultivated

• The deserted city of Fatehpur Sikri is about 40 km southwest of Agra

ECONOMIC

• Agra was the second most self-employed in India in 2007

• Tourism has a significant role in the economy of Agra

• This city is home to some of the most prestigious spas, resorts and hotels in all of India.

• The economy of Agra is also dependent on industrial production

• Agra has a good number of apparel and garment manufacturers and exporters.

• The cities industrial base also produces automobiles, leather goods, handicrafts and stone
carving.
