Protective FABRIC Sleeve for Single Hydraulic Hoses

X APPROVED FOR SUPPLIER DISTRIBUTION

INTERNAL TO DEERE ONLY

Printed or saved copies are considered to be uncontrolled.

Scope:

This standard is intended to establish general specifications, performance requirements, and uniform
methods for the testing and evaluation of hydraulic hose protective FABRIC sleeve for single hose. It does
not apply to the hose cover. The purpose of the sleeve is to protect the hydraulic hose from excessive
abrasion.

Two performance levels, A and B are established with Level A, the best. Protective sleeve performance
levels are determined by application.

1. Performance Requirements:

1.1. These sleeves must resist deterioration from sunlight, weather, paint, oil and grease thru a
temperature range of -40°C to 120°C.

1.2. Attachment Pull Test (to be developed):

This section will define the test procedure and establish the minimum force required to pull the
protective sleeve loose from the attachment.

1.3. Abrasion test (to be developed):

This section will define the test procedure and establish the minimum abrasion test cycles required
for each performance level.

1.3.1. Level A (to be developed).

1.3.2. Level B (to be developed).

1.4. Cold Bend Test:

1.4.1. Bend the protective sleeve and hose assembly uniformly over a mandrel having a diameter
equal to twice the minimum specified hose bend radius. Protective sleeve and hose assembly
to be subjected to -40°C for 24 hours prior to bending.

Hoses less than 25.4 mm nominal inside diameter shall be bent 180° over the mandrel and
hoses of 25.4 mm nominal inside diameter and larger will be bent 90° over the mandrel.

After bending, the protective sleeve and hose assembly shall be allowed to warm to room
temperature, then visually examined. There shall be no fractures of the protective sleeve
material.

2. Sleeve Classifications:

2.1. Sleeve performance will conform to abrasion test level (A or B) unless otherwise specified.
(Example: DTW1213)

2.2. If a specified performance level is required, it must be specified. (Example: DTW1213

Performance Level A)

3. Color:

3.1. Sleeve material will match JDM F9L Industrial Yellow.

4. Size (see Illustration A):

4.1. The sleeve inside diameter will be 10-50% larger than hose nominal outside diameter.

4.2. Sleeve wall thickness 3 mm maximum.

4.3. The sleeve length between the clamps is the distance between the clamps (that attach the sleeve)
plus the following length:

DISTANCE BETWEEN CLAMPS ADDED LENGTH TOLERANCE

4.3.1. Up to 300 mm 23 +13 / -8 mm

4.3.2. 300 mm to 600 mm 46 +29 / -16 mm

4.3.3. 600 mm to 1500 mm 85 +35 / -25 mm

4.3.4. 1500 mm and above: 85 + 15 mm for +35 / -25 mm

every 500 mm +/- an additional 5 mm
increment or partial for every 500 mm
increment above increment or partial
1500 mm increment above
1500 mm

Example: ( 2300 mm: 115 + 45 / -35 mm)

4.4. Total sleeve length is the length specified in Section 4.3, plus 2 times the clamp width, plus a
minimum of 10 mm.

4.5. Sear all cut lengths.

5. Attachment (see Illustration A)

5.1. Clamp each end of the sleeve to the crimped part of each hose end fitting (coupling).

5.2. A minimum of 5 mm of sleeve must extend beyond each clamp. The sleeve cannot extend over the
fixed hex of the end fittings.

5.3. Hose assembly part number must be legible after sleeve attachment.

6. Drawing Note:

6.1. Assembly drawings will have “Protective FABRIC sleeve and attachment per DTW 1213”
(performance level specified if required).

6.2. Any additions or exceptions to DTW 1213 must be noted on the drawing.

7. Approved Means of Attachment:

7.1. Band-It ¼ inch Tie–Lock preformed clamp. These are 201 stainless steel clamps.
Example of clamp sizes:

Band-It #EX3819 –35.05 mm I.D.

Band-It #EX3829 –47.45 mm I.D.
Band-It #EX3838 –76.2 mm I.D.
Band-It #EX3949 –101.6 mm I.D.

7.2. Band-It 3/8 inch preformed clamps. These are galvanized carbon steel clamps.
Example of clamp sizes:

Band-It #J343 –25.4 mm I.D.

Band-It #J302 –34.9 mm I.D.
Band-It #J345 –47.6 mm I.D.
