3 years in each role, if no movement or no clear plans for you

then move on to next chapter. don't settle for companies that
don't value you 12
Just go for it. 9
Openings pop-up on an opportunistic basis just go for it 4

Lived a good life. Blessed to have a house and family. 40

Really just learn everything you can. Believe me, you learn
nothing useful in Ateneo, except the ability to learn -- which is,
of course, everything if you use it well and often. 3
I was in a boutique for almost 3 years before this, the goal was
always to get into PE. Advice is build up your connections and
hustle, you will get your offers haha 4
Always enter banking as front line/in revenue generating group.
Slow growth if operations side.
No job-bond but no real training for a Management Trainee. I
stayed there for a year and a few months. 0
Stay focused 8
move jobs if things go bad 4

For IT, never stay comfortable. Learn and enhance your

technical and soft skills always, and move between companies
every ~2 years or so to maximize your experience and get salary
jumps. I am working in the Philippines; while I recognize how
rare it is, it is possible to earn salaries like this in our country. 7

Employer/Employee loyalty is dead. Employers only care on

what they can get from you. You should do the same. Working
for someone is a business transaction. Exit whenever you feel
that the ship is sinking. Jump ship whenever there is a better
opportunity. 5
- 5
Batch 2017. Treat your employment decisions as your own
personal investments since you will be spending most of your
time at work. Always be open and flexible to explore areas
outside the norm. Rule of thumb is that to look for emerging or
high growth industries where the talent pool is not yet as
crowded, giving you more space to make a name for yourself. In
the Philippines, the fintech space is still an emerging industry
wherein lots of new ventures are coming out yet the talent pool
locally is being derived from traditional financial institutions or
tech companies not specifically involved in financial services.
Make your 20s to before 30 meaningful since that stage is a
pretty good launching pad for your future down the line.
Find people willing to pay for your talent. 10
Differentiation-geared companies would value you for skills and
brand/job fit. 8
I work from 7am to 2am everyday. I earn a lot but it's really not
worth it.

Seems like a lot of people are anchored to making a certain

amount even with limited or no experience - early in your
career, I would focus on understanding the kind of role/industry
you want, the kind of mentor you want to work for, etc. 2
Don't stress over your first job too much, focus on learning and
finding what you like doing
Choose your battles 14
Continous learning and never give up, there;s always
opportunities out there 8
Specialization (master the craft let say in the area of Corporate
Banking, Consumer Banking, Treasury, Risk Management,
Compliance or Audit)

Always diversify your income sources. 8

NA 1.5
I started my career back in 2013 as a management trainee from
one of the leading mall chains in the country just because I was
not fixed on what I wanted to do with my life and career. After
several years, I decided to take my MBA then secured a position
in this operations management and data analytics company
currently. I'd say it's nice to enter a Management Trainee post
as you get to see the whole organisation from top to bottom.
Being exposed to different levels and perspectives are good
points in determining what path you wish to take. Being a
Management Trainee would also give you the leverage to be
known inside the company and get better network if you wish to
stay for a longer time.

this goes especially for the management majors: you don't

necessarily have to work for a tech company, but please do get
as much exposure as you can to all the rapid developments in
technology. it pains me whenever i deal with clients--decision-
makers in all these big companies--who despite being all for
their supposed thrusts towards digitalization or whatnot, just
can't seem to grasp what it really is all about, and just how
much it will be dictating the way businesses will function and
compete in the coming years. I don't want to end up as that guy
milking you guys for your ignorance and still seeing you end up
obsolete because you never took the time to truly understand
what you were dealing with. I'm not too worried about the guys
I'm dealing with now since they'll be out of the picture soon, but
with you people of my generation I have to say I'm pretty
terrified. i'm sure you hear of all these big changes coming in
tech, daming buzz diyan na minsan parang noise lang diba? may
kwenta yan guys, please pay attention and adapt accordingly.
Know your worth 7

Work smart, you’ll get there. Suck it up, be resilient. Be

prepared. Be resourceful. Ask questions. Admit ignorance. Your
school may land you the job but it’s your attitude and work ethic
that will make you go places. 14
"No hurry, no pause." 2
Don't get stuck in one company because internal promotions
pay less. Don't be afraid to negotiate your salary 6
You’ll learn on the job, has been 2 years of pressure.
Would rather not directly reveal who I am, obviously. But for
more details: this my first job and I'm currently employed
abroad in Singapore. My work is best described as an ME I
guess; I go to each and every department and team within the
company and I document and optimize their processes. I report
directly to the CEO as we try to digitize his traditional family
business. In a way, I also double as a Product Manager as I'll also
be handling the platform that we'll develop after. 0

AB 1997, LLB 2004 (another school), MBA 2010. I started

working in 2004, one month before my 29th birthday and two
months before my wedding day. I had a complete career shift in
2010, where I had to start from scratch (zero income). With the
Lord's hand prodding me on - climbing the ladder through a
combination of private and government institutions - I've
managed to land at my present position. It won't be my last.

Spend a lot of time on Business Case competitions while in

undergrad. They will not only get you jobs (or the network to
get them), but with enough exposure and competition volume
(assuming you do your best), you will gain both hard and soft
skills that even A students in Ateneo won't. Why? Because they
will give you opportunities to bridge what you learned in school
to actual/real-life problems that companies face.

Take the leap. Only joined the company recently, a lot of

companies are actually looking for young hires, even the fresh
grad level if you're good. Leave a comment if you're interested,
will look through when we need new hires. 4

Have grit, learn as much as you can, develop your network in

the industry, and volunteer for projects and initiatives. If you
can, try to get certifications relevant to the job like CFA, FRM,
etc. These will help you climb up faster. 3.5
Having a high starting salary shouldn’t be the most important
part in your job search. High salary doesn’t automatically equate
to good career satisfaction anyways. 1

Do your best and God will do the rest. 3
Was kind of intimidated to start at this job, because 80% of my
direct teammates were Summa Cum laudes from UP BAA, UP IE,
Ateneo MH, etc. 1

Admittedly, I was becoming stagnant because this salary is more

than enough for me as a single person with no family
obligations, but reading through the phinvest subreddit is like a
wake-up call. We must continuously improve our skills and our
income streams. I'm stable now, but who knows how it'll be 10
or even 5 years down the road. 3

Always look for better opportunities. The company will always
be capable to replace you, so focus on your personal and
professional development. 2

Finding a really good boss and mentor matters. It's also good to
look for a job that offers career growth and personal
development of transferable skills. This is so you'll always have
job security and that it will be easy for you to leave, if you want
to.

It doesn’t matter much what you do during college, the grades

you get, even the orgs you join (although this truly helps you
prepare for the real world). You will be with people from
different backgrounds who might have done more or less than
you have but have ended up in the same place you’re working
in. Take it easy on yourselves. College is supposed to be fun

You don’t have to know what you want right away. It’s okay to
figure things out along the way. 3

Best tip I got was that most lucrative posts you do not see
online. You gotta do the dirty work and dig for these
opportunities from contacts and network. Contrary to what is
usually the norm, companies value non-linear way of doing
things or in short, diskarte. It is quite common to see C students
overtaking A students with sheer grit and hustle.

Media & Advertising is not as tiring as people say..... IF you

remove all the shitty office politics. Inconsiderate bosses and
competitive teammates can really affect you and your work (no
matter how hard you try not to let them), so for those
considering this industry or for those who are in it like me —
CHOOSE YOUR COMPANY WELL. Pay & benefits are nothing if
your mental health suffers in the long run. Thank God I found an
agency that’s not as toxic as the others, and yeah it’s definitely
not perfect, but I will stay here for as long as the growth
opportunities they provide keep coming. 5

If you come from a name brand school, take advantage of it

when your job hunting for your first job. It won't mean much
when getting your 2nd job, so might as well juice it for what it's
worth and get the highest salary you can get from the start. 1.5

Family business is Monday to Saturday work for us. Still
adjusting because I came from corporate. Everything is still a
little disorderly for me and not in an industry I have experience
in. Not much advice here but stay away from small family
owned businesses or majority of Chinese owned companies, try
working at the big local firms first or BPO or Multinational
companies so that you will earn more and receive better
benefits. 2
May be a very demanding job depending on the nature of the
project. Downside: I spend majority of my time facing a
computer screen.

Currently in second year law but was offered a job in

Procurement under the Office of the President. The job requires
knowledge in law. Right now, I am not yet a regular employee

graduating from law school, but for a different position. 0
Experience is the best way to realize where you fit once you see
how the different parts in a company actually interact! Don't

These early steps, wherever they lead you, help you learn more

I should have taken school more seriously. Looking at some of

those people get their jobs lol 2
If u want to get into the industry, find someone already inside to

You definitely learn a lot in very small firms. You get access to
lots of information and the opportunity to meet CEO’s
(clients/partners) even just as an analyst (at least in my
experience in this company).

Good learning prospects: you get to familiarize yourself with

each part of the bank while learning how the global markets
work. Also very sales oriented, so many opportunities to learn
interpersonal skills. Good as a first job and as a career
springboard.

Don’t settle for the first company that gives you a job offer. 2
hours aren't bad. Work ranges from light to very heavy
depending on markets. 2

Salary starts from 21,000 and goes higher depending on the

project and position you are in. Projects are usually 2-3 years
long so that's how long your job security is unless you are in a
lab where there are plenty of projects every now and then.
Once you're in, it's easier for you to get more chances of getting
into another project after. 2

Don't stay in the same circle for a long time --- you might drown.
Explore being with other departments during lunch break or
when you do projects with them. Get to know what they do and
how your work fits in the picture. Also good to know who you
work with beyond seeing names in email correspondences, it
could greatly improve your performance (it did for me). 2
None lol. I'll be resigning this June. My job is just a stepping
stone since I couldn't think of what I wanted to do. 4
It all boils down to what you wish to prioritize for your job.
Make a list of all the factors that you're considering and rank it
for your own reference (e.g. salary, networking, portfolio,
benefits, career growth/promotion, work environment, job
satisfaction, if what you're doing will change the world, etc.) It's
okay to make salary your top priority, and it's also okay to make
career growth/promotion your priority; again, it depends on you
and your own personal experiences/context. :) Good luck and
keep your chin up! Be prepared for rejection, but always remain
hopeful for the best.
Look for what you are passionate about.

Try to negotiate a higher salary even though you think it may be

too high (you can always say its negotiable) . Stay if you like the
job, if not you can always look for an opening somewhere else
or go on a different career path while you're still young. WORK

salary level. I decided to pursue social science research
afterwards because it was my passion and my original degree
but eventually gave up after three years because the pay is not
competitive enough and there were not so much benefits
compared to comms. I have a lot of frustrations from this
experience because it seems like my degree from ADMU was
not much of help in my career path. I also got the wrong
impression that it can give you a competitive advantage in
negotiating for salary. Now, I just achieved stability (financial
independence from parents, reliable HMO, renting my own
place, savings) after 4-5 years. If I could just advise my younger
self, I’ll convince myself to level off expectations with the ADMU
brand and research more about the realities of industry pay in
comparison to the promise of the academe. And take more part
time gigs! It doesn’t hurt to have a side income as it can
augment your savings. 5

Job entails solicitation of investment/trust accounts, conduct of
training and client calls, bookbuilding for bond and equity IPOs,
a bit of port man, and sales channel management. Work load
not commensurate with salary but a good start if you want to
learn banking and intermediate finance. Client facing job so it's
more emotionally than mentally draining. Expect your soft skills
to be enhanced as you deal with all sorts of people everyday.
Work environment can get toxic especially when prioritizing
high net-worth clients. Perks include going around the country
to drive sales and conduct training. Very tedious because you're
mandated to go out for joint/cold calls yet you have to take care
of most of office/admin matters as well. Compliance/regulation
very tight. A mistake is almost not allowed.
Develop a skill. Try to get paid for your
expertise/connection/character. NOT your TIME.

Be honest in your interviews regarding your experiences, but

also be confident in presenting your achievements as it will
provide a very good impression to recruiters. Always know the
market value of the positions you are applying for so that you
will be able to determine which offers are subpar or below the
standard. Negotiate also if you can. (in my case, i wasn't able to
because it was a cadetship lol) Goodluck! ;) 0

Econ, Finance, BA, fresh grads should opt for 18k basic starting
pay. Started as a Fresh Grad (Econ major) with 18k starting last
october 2016. 2018 got me 10% increase, then 2019 got me
20% increase. 50% increase when applying for a new job (from
associate to snior associate) is possible :) Look for international
financial companies with service centers here in the PH. NT,
Macq, HSBC, CITI, JPM, S&P are a good place to start :)
Early in my career so can't give much solid advice. What's been
working for me is always looking to learn and coming in earlier
and leaving later than everyone else (and of course trying to get
a lot done in that time span). 0
Sales during COVID is extra-challenging. 3

Fresh grad but given a senior role still a no deal for me. Just

Does he/she see your perseverance in a positive or negative

You don't have to prove something to move up the ladders. As

A great starting place for a career in IT 3

If you know you can do better, don't settle for less.

Invest in a company/industry you see yourself working in for at

least a year at minimum. If you don't see yourself working in the
sort of work you're in for the long-run, then it would be better
to start searching for new opportunities. Act and decide early as
to not waste time and to make the most of your work
experience in something you find more suitable for the career
path you want.

Most of my growth really came from handling my superior. Her

reputation is quite notorious (actually 'quite' would be an
understatement). Everyone evades her brand because she's
moody, easily stressed and only chooses the jobs she wants to
do (and the rest goes to us). As for career growth, she refused
to promote her encoder of 4 years as a senior encoder because
she still has to train the other new hire. Same goes for her
assistants, she's known to extend their "training" before
promoting them until she thinks they're "ready". Eventually all
of our main encoders resigned which then started the trend of 4
encoders (and counting) AWOLing after a week to a month in
the job.
Seek advice from people in your field so you'll know where to

This has been my first job since I graduated back in 2018. It was

apparently even “forgot” to approve our raise this year

Be proactive and have initiative in whatever you do. This is the
skills that will get you alot in life. 3
I'm hired as a contractual employee in this company. If you're
directly hired, you'll have unlimited benefits but since they want
to manage these generous benefits, they usually hire fresh
grads/less than 1 year experience professionals through a third
party agency para they can't have the benefits. It's unfair yes,
but I like what I'm doing. It's a good learning experience but I'm
giving myself a deadline that if I'm not yet absorbed within the
year, I'll definitely leave. I've been doing tasks that have the
same weight as the regular employees, sometimes heavier so I
know I deserve more benefits. But the experience is really good
as long as you have a hands on mentor.

"Treat the people in your company like family."

Get this job if you want to learn the practical applications of law
in practice. You need a lot of stamina and patience as well as a
good internal record system. It's a lot of leg work and calling and
drafting and also being charming to a fault. Research skills and
resourcefulness is a really big bonus since all the tools are
requestable.

Learning is best done through experience. I was very shy during

my first few months at the company because I was never sure
that I was doing things right. I have since found that if you make
mistakes your supervisor will correct you; there are always
people whom you can fall back on. 0

It would be best to get first hand opinion of the job in terms of

team, job description, and workload. Unfortunately for me I was
not able to do this so I entered the company not knowing how
toxic the team I was working in was. 1

PR is a good way to get your foot in the door if you want to be a

writer, but once you get the chance, I recommend jumping to
publishing. The biggest frustration I have (and I know many
others who share the same sentiment), is not being credited for
my work, so if you're looking for a way to build your writing
portfolio, this probably isn't for you.

Don't give up on job hunting, and just keep looking! 0.83

I was unemployed for a year before starting so I am just happy
to have a job. 0
Everything is a learning experience. 1
Continue to learb and focus on your job then take trainings
since the company already provide these plus it can help you
upskill. 2

I suggest that you have another source of income that wouldn't

affect your primary job. It's up to you. Personally, I trade ph
stocks that's why even though I give money to my parents, I still
have money of my own. 1
If you can afford it, focus on finding a boss that is more of a
mentor and not on a high compensation job. It makes or breaks
you.
Know your rights and thy worth.
I don't have advice lol planning to take master's and transfer 1.5
No matter how hard things may be— never give up because
you’ll never achieve them unless you keep fighting.
Okay naman

If there is no career growth in your job, Leave. Career Growth is

very important for your future. No company will be willing to
hire an incompetent person even if he/she has years of
experience. 2

Think twice (thrice) if you really want to go into education. 3

It is given that as a fresh graduate you are expected to start at

minimum rate.
If being systematic and repetitive is not your type, do not work
in a bank.

Career is very hard but rewarding if you push through it 2

Starting and running a business/startup is a shit way to get rich

for the first 5 years but its worth it when you go through all the
struggles, you will make mistakes and learn a lot. After a while
you learn to master your craft and become really good at it and
then the money starts to follow in. Being an entrepreneur is not
for the faint of heart, you will have sleepless anxious nights, go
broke, be laughed at and discouraged at what you do but if you
persevere and focus ahead success will follow

work and his attention to detail shows in
the workpapers. Additionally, he refers to
Atlas for rollforward tasks to ensure that
the team is compliant with the latest
standards. We recommend that Jeric
continues to use Atlas as his resource to
demonstrate his independence and
quality of work being provided to the local
team.

Jeric is an asset to the team and performs

all tasks in a timely manner. Rollforward
tasks are reflective of base workpapers
that were given as examples and
communication on the status of tasks is
frequent and informative. It's clear that
Jeric is detail oriented as he always refers
to Atlas for the most updated versions for
rollforward tasks and also checks to see
that it is relevant for the engagement. We
noted his comments to his staff denoting
to fix items to be correct and appreciate
his thorough checks. We recommend that
Jeric continue to exercise his attention to
detail. His push for quality is recognized
and appreciated by the local team.
We encourage Jeric to communicate more
frequently when there are questions
about tasks to ensure that all aspects of
the tasks are completed as instructed.
Communication is key to working as a
team as well as asking questions.
However, more often than not Jeric is
thorough and we recognize as he works
with our team more closely we'll continue
to develop stronger communication.
