1. Why did you apply to this course?


 According to the student survey It is part of the top 10 Universities for the course that
interests me, Adult nursing
 I have noticed in your year 1 module you teach ‘person-centred care’ this caught my
attention as other universities that also offer universities done, so your university has stood
out to me

2. How will you manage stress at Uni?


 My involvement in extra-curricular activities carried out by church events are a great form of
distraction during stressful times related to my studies.
 Personal time I have developed a hobby of playing the keyboard I find this has an effective
way to relax mentally and takes my mind of stress.

3. You witness your nursing tutor bullying and belittling on of your nursing colleges how
would you deal with this situation?
 It is ethically wrong according to the NMC code to discriminate against student sand vice
versa, so respecting their position as a nursing tutor I would politely step in and stand up for
my fellow college because it is not right to just sit there silently watch someone get bullied
when you can do something to help.

4. Why did you decide on this career of nursing?


 Emotionally satisfying, making a difference/helping people’s lives in any way
 Every engaging because you are constantly learning new things.

5. Why choose nursing over midwifery?


 As a midwife you are limited because your role is so specialised to just one area (mother
and child, delivery etc.)
 Adult nursing is such a flexible field and has a wide range of specialisations, your role is
not limited
 Not the same routine/pattern over again, meeting new patients with different
circumstances/background – more interesting
6. Why did you choose Adult nursing over medicine?
 Provide holistic care
+ maintain a consistent interaction via feeding, medicine, blood tests etc.
+ present throughout the whole process from the beginning till recovery
+ much more hands-on compared to doctors
- Doctors mainly focus on the medical problem and only deal with that in mind

 Advocate for patients.


- Doctors may briefly discuss with patients and their family using medical terms

+ Can relate to the individual by communicating in a language they understand

+ explaining illnesses and procedures to them that may not sound complicated

+ experience on people interaction – translation, nursery + elders home developed

Therefore, I believe my personality is more suited to nursing

7. What do you think will be most challenging about this course?


 I think that the clinicals/placements would be quite challenging
 because you are walking into an unexpected situation in the hospital
 meeting new patients which can be intriguing but also comes with a lot of
uncertainty.

8. Describe the role of the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC)?


 The function of the NMC is to establish standards for nurses and midwives that will
provide guidance in education and training through principles.

9. What do you think are the most important personal qualities of a nurse?
 The ability to empathise and care for the individual to provide quality care to
ensure good emotional and physical wellbeing is established.
 I believe communication skills are necessary for to be able to advocate for the
patients needs. I have developed these skills during my work experience at a
children’s’ nursery and at a residential home for the elderly.

10. What are the current nursing issues in the media?


 With COVID-19 and the staff shortage
 Despite the stress that comes, I want to make a difference to the community.
 Now is the time the NHS needs people in the health-care field
 Pandemic has not put me off this career choice but has fuelled my interest and
makes me passionate to purse a career in nursing.
11. What are your strengths and weaknesses?

+ A good team player

Experience:

 Preparing and Displaying group presentation during enrichment lesson with my team
 Taught collaborative skills
 Taught patience and understanding

+ Being a good team player has developed leadership qualities

Experience:

 2016 Shoebox project charity – church event – mayor


 performances were carried out to portray circumstances of children from rural areas
and less-developed countries and how they would feel receiving the gift.
 I wrote the scripts for a drama I co-directed
 Taught me organisational skills whilst taking on responsibilities

Weaknesses:

 Being a Team player has sometimes been difficult


 Lack of co-operation from others/clash in opinions - frustration
 But have learnt that different perspectives/commitments that may not fit under my
time
 Become more flexible and understanding, adaptable to others’ ideas
