4-A’s SEMI-DETAILED LESSON PLAN

Oral Communication

I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the session, the students can:
A. Identify the three functions of communication;
B. Deliver the speech according to its purpose; and
C. Value the significance of having sources of speeches.

II. SUBJECT MATTER


A. Topic : The Functions of Communication
B. Materials : Informative text, video clip
C. Reference : Oral Communication in Context SHS

III. PROCEDURE/STRATEGY
A. Motivation
 The teacher will play a video clip to the class. The video talks about speech that informs,
persuades, and entertains.
 The students will take note information from the video presented for the next activity.
 The video will be played twice.
B. Activity
 Students will analyze and brainstorm on the video clip presented.
 The students will present the details of the initial speech on the video clip presented.
 They need to determine the parts on the video clip: introduction, body, and conclusion.
 The students may use graphic organizers to present their ideas.
C. Analysis
 The teacher will then ask the following questions:
1. What have you observed with the video clip presented?
2. Were you able to identify the purpose of speech on the video clip presented?
3. What are the factors you need to consider when delivering a speech?
4. How can you improve the speech presentation from the video clip?
5. What do you think is the function of speech manifested from the video clip?
D. Abstraction
 The teacher will discuss the topic about the three functions of communication.
 The teacher will cite examples on each function of communication.
 The teacher will ask the students to give examples on each function.
E. Application
 The class will be divided to four groups and will do their own commercial.
 The students will identify the general purpose of their work and determine what function of
communication it portrays.
 The students will be given twenty minutes to do the task.
 Each group will assign reporter to discuss the final output in the class.
 After the allotted time, group presentation will follow.
F. Generalization
 The teacher will ask the questions to the students:
1. Why is it important to know the different functions of speech?
2. Why do we need to give importance to the sources of our speech?
3. How can make it a person a good speaker?

IV. EVALUATION
 The teacher will conduct a short quiz.
 The class will be given 10 minutes to answer the questions.
 After 10 minutes, checking of papers will follow.

V. ASSIGNMENT
Direction: Watch the RC commercial trend and identify whether it has the functions of speech. Present
your idea using a graphic organizer. (20 points)
