MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARD

Dear Readers,

Political and social instabilities that have recently been felt throughout the world, has forced countries to prioritize their defence
requirements more than ever, therefore considerably increasing their aspirations towards national defence industrial capabilities. As one of
the leading factors directly affecting the balance of power between nations, efforts towards the improvement of capabilities and capacities in
the area of defence industry, is also increasing globally. It is no coincidence that countries with indigenous and locally manufactured
products and systems are characterized to be stronger and independent. In this regard, the important progress that Turkey is making, is
promising for the future of the country.

Developments in the defence industry, directly effects other industrial areas as well. As a result of its position, investments in the sector, turn
into indirect investments on the future of science and thus to our tomorrows. The fact that R&D has been a part of the Roketsan culture since
its establishment, and the adaptation of planning the future from today, plays an important role in the success that Roketsan has achieved.

Entering the ‘Defense News Top 100 List’ for the first time in 2017, which lists the top 100 defence industrial activities of the world, has
given us the satisfaction of achieving one of the short-term goals of Roketsan. This success is an important milestone, not only for Roketsan
but also for the sector. The fact that three Turkish companies have made the list, is a strong indicator of how far the local industry has
advanced under the support of the Turkish Armed Forces and under the leadership of the Undersecretariat for Defence Industries (SSM).

We see R&D activities as the lifeline of our company. We dedicated roughly 37 % of our 2016 turnover for R&D. Our R&D engineer work-
force has reached close to 900 strong. We also attach a great importance to sustainability and cooperation. Roketsan investments are realised
in keeping with our business ecosystem. Our goal is to increase our turnover beyond US$ 1 Billion, in keeping with the 2023 goals of Turkey.

At the Dubai Airshow, Airbus presented a C295 Aircraft integrated with L-UMTAS and CİRİT missiles and TEBER-82 Laser Guidance Kit,
all designed and developed by Roketsan. The fact that the Turkish Armed Forces and leading platform manufacturers prefer missiles and
guided munitions produced by Roketsan in a highly competitive market, is a strong indication of the capability and maturity of our products.

We continue our efforts at full speed in a move to orbit our national satellite with our own capabilities. We are giving our full attention to
this project, which will elevate the position of Turkey in the world to the next level, both strategically and technologically.

Being a member of Roketsan is about producing and making a difference. Just like the Turkish National Amputee Football Team, that
overcame all the obstacles and won the European Championship. I would like extend my appreciation to the National Team Captain Osman
ÇAKMAK, who is a member of the Roketsan Family, and his teammates for making Turkey proud.

We’d like to take this opportunity to celebrate the new year of all of our readers and as Roketsan, we wish for 2018, which is our 30th
Anniversary, to bring peace, serenity and welfare for the whole world.

 MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT & CEO

Dear Readers,

Throughout the world, the defence sector is one of the leading activities that play an important role in economic development. When we
consider the reflections of those positive developments in our industry, on the Turkish economy, we see how true this approach is. With its
own production capabilities and developing products and systems with many leading edge technologies, Roketsan has achieved many firsts,
thus playing an important role in the development of Turkey.

In 2017, we achieved our goal of entering the Defense News Top 100, listing the leading defence companies of the world, at number 98.
Thus also confirming in the international arena that Roketsan is one of the world’s leading companies in our area of activity with our
indigenous latest technology products and our product range, which is expanding every year. This achievement is not only important for our
industry but also goes to show our National strength.

The importance that Roketsan attaches to R&D activities, is one of the main factors behind this success. Under the “R&D 250” study
undertaken by the Turkish Exporters’ Assembly (TİM), which ranks the top 250 companies in R&D expenditures in Turkey, we came out 5th,
with almost 37 % of our turnover. We are very appreciative in seeing the results of our relative efforts generating such positive results on
various platforms. Again, according to the results of “Turkey’s Top 500 Service Exporters” study carried out by TİM, Roketsan has been
presented with an award as one of the leading companies contributing to the services export of Turkey.

The point we have attained in the ability of integration of our solutions onto various platforms, plays an important role in the decisions to
select our products. TEBER, CİRİT and L-UMTAS, representing the most advanced products in their own classes, were displayed together
with the Airbus C295 Aircraft at the Dubai Airshow 2017, where our cooperation relative to the integration efforts were introduced as well.

We have the utmost belief in the youth onto whom we will be passing our heritage. And they continue to live up to our trust. We are proud to
observe many of our young people whose work we contribute in, are achieving national and international acclaim and seeing that the
producers of future technologies are taking firm steps forward.

While the whole country is filled with joy with the Turkish National Amputee Football Team winning the 2017 European Championship, the
fact that the Team Captain Osman ÇAKMAK is a member of the Roketsan Family, only goes to double our joy and pride. On behalf of the
Roketsan Family, we congratulate each and every player and wish them continued success.

We leave behind a successful 2017, a year in which we have achieved our goals. We believe that 2018, when we will be celebrating our 30th
Anniversary, will be a year that we’ll continue to be noted with our successes on national and international platforms. I wish that 2018 will
be a year that brings wellbeing, peace and goodness and I kindly extend my warmest regards.

Dear Readers,

We are excited to present our new issue to you on the eve of celebrating our 30th Anniversary. In this issue, we prepared a lot
of content that you’ll enjoy reading.

2017 has witnessed us attending a number of fairs in various regions of the world and in different countries, where we
presented our latest products and systems that will pioneer technology. Each fair has been an opportunity to establish new
cooperation and to further the existing ones. During Dubai Airshow, the Airbus C295 Aircraft and CİRİT, L-UMTAS and
TEBER were displayed together. Our cooperation with Airbus regarding the integration of our products received widespread
attention in the international media.

While adding new ones to our collection of awards, we climbed to new heights in various rankings. We entered the ‘Defense
News Top 100 List’ for the first time and took our place among the leaders of the world. In the “R&D 250” study, based on
R&D expenditures, we were ranked 5th as a result of our significant percentage we allocated from our turnover.

We hope that articles penned by various our experts, will attract your attention. Additionally, in this issue we’ve initiated a
new approach where you’ll find an exclusive interview. While the Turkish National Amputee Football Team, made us all proud
by winning the European Championship, as the Roketsan Family we were even more delighted with the success of our
colleague Osman ÇAKMAK, the Captain of the National Team. We believe that you’ll highly appreciate our sincere
conversation with him.

Safeguarding the legacy of ATATÜRK for a secular, modern and democratic Republic of Turkey and carrying it forward is our
most important asset, both as a citizen and as a member of the Roketsan Family. Like every year, also in 2017, we
commemorated ATATÜRK with ceremonies and paid a visit to his mausoleum to show our gratitude.

Cruise Missile SOM

Under the scope of the Precision Guided Stand-Off Missile (SOM) Project, which is the first undertaking
by Roketsan towards the requirements of the Turkish Air Forces Command (TurAF), efforts to produce
and develop a national cruise missile continue at full speed.

With the purpose of meeting the
requirements of the Turkish Air Forces
Command for a cruise missile, the SOM
Development Project started in April,
2006 under the coordination of
TÜBİTAK Defence Industry Research
and Development Institute (TÜBİTAK
SAGE). As a result of the efforts
dedicated to the Conceptual Design,
Preliminary Design, Ground Tests and
the Flight Tests which were carried out
in cooperation with the 1st Air Supply
Maintenance Command
(ASMC/HİBMK), the Product
Qualification phase was successfully
completed in 2012.
The first production tender initiated by
SOM is a guided cruise missile that can
operate in all weather conditions,
developed against heavily protected
fixed and mobile land and naval
targets, adorned with long range, low
visibility, high survivability, high strike
power, high precision and his resistance
against counter measures as well as
operational flexibility characteristics.
The modular structure of the SOM
System makes it possible to derive
various variants and therefore provide
more operational flexibility when
compared to similar systems. With a
warhead of 230 kg, the total weight of
the missile is around 600 kg while total

Roketsan Showcases Ballistic Protection Solutions

R oketsan is extending
application areas of its ballistic
protection solutions. Having developed,
the
manufactured and successfully completed
the qualification of the armour system for
the Altay main battle tank, Roketsan is now
showing up in this field with implementing
also the Explosive Reactive Armor (ERA)
System. The ERA system, which uses
Roketsan developed insensitive explosives,
provides protection against anti-tank
ammunition with the tandem warhead. It
also minimises collateral damage, and is
applicable to various armoured vehicles.
The modular design makes dismantling
and renewal processes easier and it does
not require maintenance throughout its life
cycle, according to a company spokesman.
Roketsan also provides protection against
RPG (rocket propelled grenade) type
threats with its light weight RPG Shield
System for the vehicles in the inventory of
Turkish users and for the KİRPİ vehicles in
the inventory of a foreign user. “One of our
key advantages is that we are also working
on rocket and missile systems, the aim of
which is to overcome ballistic protection
systems. This brings Roketsan to a very
privileged position and we use all the
advantages of this privilege for the benefit
of our customers,” says Selçuk YAŞAR,
President and CEO of Roketsan. The
company’s ballistic protection solutions also
include solutions for helicopters. Roketsan
develops floor, side and seat armour for
helicopters and made its first application
to the Black Hawk helicopters in the
inventory of the Turkish Gendarmerie. The

camps include RZB-20 Armor Block,
which comprises high strength composite
protection panels for the protection of
military zones against medium calibre

At the championship, in which one of the participants were our National Amputee Football Team affiliated
under Turkish Disabled Sports Federation and supported by Turkish Football Federation under “Turkey
Plays Football” project, 12 teams had a fierce competition.
T
hroughout the championship, our
National Team played against
Germany, Georgia, Spain, Russia,
Poland and England at the final and
managed to win championship with no
losses.
While the success of our national team
makes all of us proud, as Roketsan
Family we felt another kind of joy.
Osman ÇAKMAK…
We made an exclusive interview with the
Captain of the National Team and also
Roketsan employee Osman ÇAKMAK
both about himself and the success they
achieved for our country.
First of all, as Roketsan Family we
would thank you and your team for
making us proud. Your success cannot

be a coincidence. How long has this
endeavour been continuing? For how
long have you been in this team and
team’s captain? > I’ve started playing
amputee football in 2009. I was living in
Tokat back then. The headquarters was
in Ankara and amputee football was not
available in Tokat. I had to play in one
of the teams in Ankara. You do personal
exercise but it’s not enough, you need to
do team exercises as well. Then I was
selected for the National Team. As
fortune would have it, I became team
Captain later on. I have a football player
bac kground so unavoidably my
leadership skills and knowledge is
reflected on the team as well. So they
talked among themselves. Normally
there were others who are older they
wanted me to be their Captain. They
wanted me to be their big brother and
their Captain. So, I became the Captain.
Who is Osman ÇAKMAK? Can you share
your life story with us? > I was born in
Tokat’s Zile county, in Narlıkışla village.
I really liked playing football. Didn’t
have a physical education teacher back
then. There was one teacher attending
all classes. I was an ambitious and avid
student in classes. My teacher had great
confidence in me as well. After I
graduated from the elementary school, I
had to play football. I was all about
football... I needed to go to the big city.
Otherwise how would I get training or
get discovered? My teacher said “These
things only happen in Istanbul”. So I
spoke with my family. I said “Dad, I’m
going to Istanbul.”, and he replied
“Where will you stay?” And I said “I’ll
find some place.” I was 11 when I came

to Istanbul. I started working at a
carpenter’s shop. Then I went to the
audition of Zeytinburnu Sports Club.
Afterwards, life brought me to different
directions. There wasn’t enough money
in youth setup to get by and still there
isn’t. Of course this ambition, this desire
I had... When I began playing football,
my greatest desire was to make it to the
A Team in my club and wear the
National Team uniform. As I was
moving towards that goal, I had an
injury. At that time I had to earn my
keep so went to Russia with a company.
I worked six months on furniture-
assembly. I went there with a seven
years of experience. I was a carpenter
and also I started working at Roketsan
as a carpenter as well. After I came
back I continued playing football but
before I can become fully professional
the time came for me to do my military
service. I went there to carry out my
national service, a duty that all Turkish
individuals aspire to carry out. First I
went to Manisa, Doğukışla and
afterwards went to Istanbul for a special
training that lasted for 45 days. From
there, I went to Şırnak. I enjoyed doing
my miltary service. I might be the person
that is most mindful about one’s clothes.
I never wore my clothes while they were
in wrinkles even when going to
operations at 5 a.m. Before going to
bed, we were laying our clothes under
the bed so that they remain straight. I
did my military service with this kind of
enthusiasm. My Commander took me
along and asked “Would you like to be a
messenger?” And I said “With pleasure
Sir”. I was very happy and loved
everyone in my squad. We went to
missions in various regions.
Unfortunately, because of the calamitous
terrorism I lost my left leg due to a
cowardly planted mine. Now I’m
married with three children. I have two
daughters and a son. One of my
daughters is 16 years old and my son is
10. My older daughter is 17 and she’ll
take the university entrance exam next
year.
How did you decide to play football?
How did your professional football life
started? > In 2007, when I was at
Turkish Armed Forces Rehabilitation
Centre my Commanders wanted me to
play football. Back then, I just recently
had my prosthesis. A lot of our soldiers
were being martyred, there were a lot of

wounded veterans. So we said “Sir, if we
need men at the front, we’ll go there.”
And he said “No, you should honour our
flag in different domains. For example,
why don’t you play football. I can see
from your resume that you are a former
football player. And I said “Sir, it’s not
that easy” but then I started playing and
it went on. Being invited to the National
Team was a real pride, I was really
excited.
What things have changed in your life
after you won the championship? > In
2014 we almost won the world’s
championship in Mexico. At the semi-
finals, we lost with a last second goal.
But this time, in 2017, it happened in
50+2nd minute. In regular football we
can’t outmanoeuvre England but in
amputee football we can outmanoeuvre
not only England but also countries such
as Brazil, Germany and Spain. These are
countries that excel in football but we
can beat Argentina at the last moment
with a score of 3-0. In amputee football
there was a country that we couldn’t win
and that was Russia. And we achieved
this success by beating Russia. After I
lost my leg in the military I was thinking
that it wasn’t something that I could
ever forget but this championship made
me forget many things.
You made your country champion by
scoring in 50+2nd minute? What did you
feel at that moment? > I was in
defence, as it was my position. We are
back-stage and not in front of the lights.
I didn’t have any goals in the
tournament, nor did I aspire to. In the
world championship, I scored one goal
against Mexico. I hit the ball coming
back from the corner with a half volley
and we made it to the final. And this
time, Osman scored and the
championship is won. That day, as I was
coming out to the field, thought to
myself “There is a festive atmosphere at
the stadium, what can we do? We need
to make a difference.” We were quite
eager and ambitious. We thought we
could beat England easily because the
conversations we had that day, the
behaviours of the teammates, the
coach’s speeches were extraordinary.
They scored at the 50th minute. I
checked the time, it was 50 and if we
play overtime we needed a team that can
play at the overtime. But our goalkeeper
and the defence were holding their faces.
So I yelled at them “come on, it’s not
over yet!”. My teammates said the same
thing “Osman you felt the match so deep
we felt sorry. We were about to collapse
to the ground but you made us keep
going by yelling like that”. For a
moment, there was a silence in the
stadium. This was a silence I didn’t like.
“Come on, come on!” I said. One minute
later there was a throw-in followed by a
corner. Talked to the other defence
player and said “I’m going to Barış, I’m
leaving here to your care.” When the
ball hit the net I yelled so hard that even
after so many months since the
tournament ended I recently pulled
myself together. It was exhilarating. 45
thousand people standing up and yelling
“Turkey” and referring to me as
“veteran” when they call out the name
Osman ÇAKMAK, it really made me
proud. In the end, we shattered the
records with our supporters, we
completed the tournament with no
losses.
Especially the final match drew a lot of
attention, thousands watched the match
live. I believe it was one of the matches
you played with highest number of
spectators. Of course you also knew
that there are millions of people as well,
watching you on n screen. How did it
feel like playing in front of such a
crowd? > God bless them. I was
thinking it was 25-30 thousand but 45
thousand people came to the stadium
with the capacity of 41 thousand. Our
people is quiet emotional, a community
with strong nationalist feelings. They
were with us since we beat Russia, they
were the last world champion, and not
after we win the championship.

The call from our General Director and
Chairman of the Boards and expressing
their support and the support of the
whole Roketsan Family. And when some
of the other companies and
municipalities made announcements as
well, we sit and thought “We deserve to
win the championship!” I really wanted
to play the finals at Vodafone Park. In
fact it was originally at Riva Facilities. I
said, “Let’s first beat the Russians. Then
you can wish for whatever you like. I’ll
demand it from our government”. And
they said, “We want to play the final in
a big stadium.” When we beat Russia
after the 60th minute, the semi final was
in front of us and Poland was a strong
rival. We could even be defeated but I
grabbed the microphone on live
broadcast and said, “We want to play
the final at Vodafone Park!” I said. So
when our President and Besiktas Foot
Ball Team Management granted their
approval our wish came true. The
Roketsan Family coming to the match
motivated me even more, which is
another thing that made me proud.

Playing at such a big stadium is a
standard that we are not used too. Think
about it, we normally play with 1.000-
1.500 spectators. The closest one was in
Argentina and it was 15 thousand. The
international media wrote that the Turks
broke a historical record.
We’d like to know this team who made
us proud more closely. We know that
there are another 13 people who commit
themselves to this team just like you.
Can you tell us about your teammates?
> I like some of them as my brother and
some of them as my son. Some of them
are as young as my children; in fact we
are investing to our future, trying to
make sure that they breath in this
atmosphere and keep it going when we
quit at some point. If I’m to talk about
everyone in short; Rahmi ÖZCAN;
team’s 2nd captain, he’s born with
disability. He’s at peace with life and
became even more after he met with
amputee football. He’s 12 years younger
than me. He always optimistic with his
morale and motivation. This keeps the
team happy, keeps the community and
eventually the country happy. He’s a
teacher. Fatih ŞENTÜRK; He lost his
left leg in a motorcycle accident. He’s an
emotional person. He is the National
Team’s striker. When he gets the wind
behind him there is no country that we
cannot beat. He’s a teacher too. Barış
TELLİ; Our brother, who passed the ball
that turned into the last goal. Normally,
he never passes me during exercises. He
started amputee football before I did. He
had a traffic accident when he was at a
young age. Fatih KARAKUŞ; He lost his
left arm as a result of a electricity
accident. Whether he gets play time or
not he always says “If my team wins, my
country wins”. Muhammet YEĞEN; He
is born with no right leg. He is from
Erzurum. He’s with us since he’s 15. If
you ask me the person that I tended
most, I’d say Muhammet. And if you ask
me the person that tired me most, I’d
say Muhammet again. We explained to
him that he’s not handicapped. “When
we send you somewhere to get something
you do that, you are not handicapped at

all” we said. He plays the same position
as me and now he became a quite
valuable and promising player. Kemal
GÜLEŞ lost his left leg from above the
knee in Şırnak in an accident. He was 12
when he came to us. We’ve come today
with special motivation and special
efforts. Feyyaz GÖZAÇIK; He’s from
Kayseri. Let’s say you’re depressed. It’ll
only take five minutes. How’s it possible
for a man to laugh all the time? No
matter what happens, he laugh five
minutes later. He’s always happy. Selim
KARADAĞ; He is from Malatya, born
with a shorter right arm. He is our goal
keeper. He is old like me, he’s at the age
of 38. Seeing their support when I act as
a Captain makes me happy. When you
walk the road together, success becomes
inevitable. He’s always helpful towards
me. Alican KURUYAMAÇ; He is born
with no right foot. He plays defence
together with me and Muhammet. When
it comes to it, he becomes my left foot.
He’s a very good friend when he thinks
optimistic but when he plunges into
pessimism it can take a while to pull
himself together. Ömer GÜLERYÜZ;
When you are speaking with Ömer, you
must be always positive. If he’s doing
something and you say that he’s doing it
wrong, he’d blush right away, he got a
quite white skin. It’s arguable whether
he’s strong or not but he is one of the
players who distinguish themselves in
Turkey and prove their talent against
other countries. We play with our
strength, he plays with his talents. He’s a
very talented and smart player. Serkan
DERELİ; He is experiencing a
misfortune that no one would ever want
to have. He’s born with disability. He
lost his mother in a traffic accident,
after that his father gets married and
they sent Serkan to a orphanage. Many
talents come out from such places.

and he was raised in an orphanage.
Serkan never sees this as a deficiency
and says that if he’s a beneficial person
that he owes that to the orphanage. He’s
very talented, very young, likes to work,
he’s a very intelligent player. Our
matches are 50 minutes. He won’t say
no if we say let’s play another 50
minutes. He is very determined. Mehmet
YUNSUR; He is from Çorum, he lost his
right leg to the haymaker on the field.
He was five. He’s a humble and mature
person. Gürkan GÜNAYDI; He’s our
physiotherapist. He’ll come to you when
you’re in pain even in the middle of
night. And he doesn’t leave before he’s
done treating you. He knows our body by
heart now that he can treat us even
through the phone. He’s a person who
loves his job. Uğur ÖZCAN is our
Technical Director, he’s a veteran. When
our team founded in 2003, he was one of
the first players in the team and he was
the Captain of the National Team for a
period. Now he shares all his experience
and knowledge with us.
In this determination that sets an
example for many sports teams, what
was the source of your immaterial
motivation? > Its special source is of
course the conservations. From our
coach to our ball boy… Believe me,
when you say something it’s really
important and if you do that personally
it’s a little different... Our people needs
one thing and that is success. If you
make Turkish people happy they’ll make
you happy even more. The attention we
saw was beyond our expectation. Our
statesman always say; you paid your
dues. But if you ask me I’m indebted to
the Turkish People, that is, I see it now
that I owe them. Why didn’t we let them
feel such happiness before?
What awaits our National Amputee
Football Team now? What is your next
goal? > In 2014, we were eliminated at
semi finals. This time we aim to win
2018 World Cup for our country. If
there is no changes, Mexico wants to
organise it again. My goal for 2018 that
my daughter gets into a good university
and that we win the 2018 World Cup for
our country.
Lastly we would like to ask a question.
What does it mean for you to be a
member of Roketsan Family? > When I
joined 2010 World Cup, my home was in
Tokat and I was here. For the World
Cup in 2012 we moved to Ankara. Of
course, it’s not easy to get by in Ankara
with veterans pension, so I needed an
extra job; applied to Roketsan and
started to work. Brought my children to
Ankara as well. I’ve had a very happy
and peaceful life here. I both work at
Roketsan and play football. You know
what they say, there is family behind
each successful person. Roketsan is my
second family. I feel indebted to
Roketsan. I say it all the time. Roketsan
has a great role in this success. There is
no age for learning and since I had no
problem getting leaves for the matches
and trainings my performance got even
better. It increased with proper life style
and determination to work. I saw this
support from Roketsan and acted
accordingly. We have a quite humble
personnel. Don’t need to mention its
success, it’s among the world’s top
companies... I always say, if you want to
take some life lessons you should come
to Roketsan and work for a month. Are
you happy? I’m very happy. Are you
peaceful. I’m very peaceful if there is a
meal on the table, if we contribute to
that table in any way, good for us.
We don’t doubt that you’ll achieve many
more successes for our country. We are
proud of you and extend our thanks for
