11. The effect of having no punctuation in every stanza gives the
impression of someone venting to someone else, or themselves,
after being cooped up with all of their emotions. Lines 32-33, “who will
I talk to.” In this poem, she puts down all of her problems to the
speaker and these lines at the end of the final stanza give the idea
that she was holding these emotions in for a long time and that she
doesn’t have many people to confide to.

12. The feelings the writers have in both their poems about a closed
door is the idea of family members locking themselves off from each
other. Lines 1-3 of teenagers, “One day they disappear into their
rooms. Doors and lips shut,” is like lines 10-11 of hanging fire, “and
momma’s in the bedroom with the door closed.” both these poems
share the idea and symbolism of a closed door, because it is good
symbolism for family members distancing themselves from their
family in their own homes.
