World English 1: Unit 1

Instructions: Read. Then complete each statement with one word from the text.

Life as a Diver

My name is Serge. I'm 24, and I'm a diver. I dive for seafood with my brother and
father. We catch octopus and shellfish. After we catch the seafood, we sell it to
restaurants. I think my occupation is very interesting, but I don't make much money.
Also, my job is difficult and not very safe. The sea is cold and there are many
dangerous fish, too.

My family and I come from Bioko, Equatorial Guinea. We are Equatorial Guinean. We
are the only country in Africa where people speak Spanish. Tourists come here from
Spain, but not from many other countries. Life isn't easy, but we are happy.

My friend Jettrin is Thai. He is also 24 and a diver. Tourists and travelers from all
around the world travel to Thailand to dive in the sea with him. Every day he meets
people from different countries. Some of Jettrin's friends are from Ireland, Japan, New
Zealand, and Canada. His life is exciting, and he has a good salary. One day I want to
meet people from other parts of the world.
