Admission to Master Programs of Tianjin University 2021

Tianjin University (TJU) offers Master Degree Programs in 106 majors from 22 schools for
international students, most majors are instructed in Chinese, among them 23 majors are
instructed in English. For more information related to 2021 Master Programs, please refer
to Attachment 1 Catalogue of 2021 Tianjin University Master Programs. Term of
Master Programs are fixed at 2-3 years. The Graduation Certificates will be conferred on
the students who successfully complete the required study and research tasks, pass the
designated examinations along with the thesis defense. Graduates who pass the
academic degree evaluation will be awarded with the Master Degree Certificates. In
addition, students from Chinese-instructed programs are required to reach Band 5 of
Chinese Language Proficiency Scales for Speakers of Other Languages while students
from English-instructed programs are required to reach Band 3 before graduation.
* Students majors in MTCSOL and Cross-Cultural Education are required to reach HSK-6
before graduation.

ⅠEligibility Requirements
1. Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens. For applicants who used to be Chinese
citizens but later immigrated to other countries, the conditions set by the Document No.
12 (2020) of Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China should be met.
2. Applicants for Master Programs must have Bachelor Degree and be under the age of
35. Applicants should be in good health and of good character, be well-behaved and be
willing to abide by China's laws and regulations, as well as the university rules.
3. Language Competence
1 For Chinese-instructed program applicants: Students apply to majors in the field of
Science and Engineering are required to submit HSK-4 certificates with the minimum
score of 195. Students apply to majors in the field of Liberal Arts and Business
Management are required to submit HSK-5 certificates with the minimum score of 180.
Native Chinese speakers and applicants who complete the undergraduate study in
Chinese are allowed to be exempted from providing HSK Certificates.
2 For English-instructed program applicants: Students are required to submit English
Proficiency Certificates. TOEFL 80 or IELTS 6.0 is mandatory. Native English speakers
are allowed to be exempted from providing relevant certificates. For applicants who
complete the undergraduate study in English can submit Certificate of Undergraduate
Study in English (Please refer to Attachment 4) as alternative language certificate
instead of TOEFL or IELTS.
* The minimum language requirement for English MBA Program is TOEFL 85 or IELTS
6.5.

ⅡHow to Apply
1. Applicants should complete the Online Application Process on the International
Student Service System (ISSS Website: tju.at0086.cn/student) within the specified time.
Applicants should fill out the application form and submit the required documents

according to the relevant directions.
2. Application Schedule
1 First Batch: November 15, 2020 - March 15, 2021. Interviews will be arranged in mid
April, 2021 until further notice. Admission results will be released in early May, 2021.
2 Second Batch: April 15, 2021 - June 15, 2021. Interviews will be arranged in late June
until further notice. Admissions results will be released in early July.
* Due to the limited quota in each school, early application is strongly recommended.
3. Please refer to Attachment 2 Application Checklist for specific requirements of each
application document.
4. General Requirements
1 All uploaded documents must be in Chinese/English; otherwise notarial translations in
Chinese/English are required. Once translated, the original documents and certified
translations should be submitted together to ISSS.
2 Please scan the original or notarized application documents using a color scanner.
Images captured by mobile phone/camera or duplicate files will not be considered as valid
documents.
3 Incomplete application will not be processed.
4 TJU has the right to request the applicants to provide the original or notarized hard
copies of application documents for further qualification checks if the uploaded documents
are not sufficient. Applicants shall guarantee all the information and documents uploaded
to ISSS are authentic and accurate, otherwise they will be disqualified from admission.

Ⅲ Evaluation and Admission

1. TJU admits students based on a comprehensive evaluation of application documents,
interview performance, language proficiency, etc. The admission committee of each
school is responsible for reviewing the application documents and nominating applicants
to the interview. The more detailed information related to the interview will be released to
selected applicants until further notice. The admission list will be determined after the
interview.
2. Before the final admission result is released, applicants may check their Application
Status via ISSS. TJU will issue Admission Letter and JW201/202 Form to admitted
students.

Ⅳ Scholarships
In order to help the talented students cope with further challenge and strive for academic
excellence, TJU has set up a multi-dimensional/multi-channel scholarship (subsidy)
system based on students’ characteristics and practical needs. Applicants can apply for
the following scholarships through guidance and are required to upload the scholarship
application forms to ISSS.
1. Chinese Government Scholarship (CGS)
CGS usually covers tuition, stipend, on-campus accommodation and medical insurance.
Annual review is strictly required for all CGS holders. Applicants may choose either Type A
or Type B channel to apply for CGS, but repeated application fro both two channels is not
allowed.

① Chinese Government Scholarship (Type A)
Applicants shall apply through Chinese Embassy or Consulate in the home country. For
contact information of Chinese embassies/consulates, please visit the website of Ministry
of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China. The application usually starts
from November to April. When filling out the Chinese Government Scholarship Application
Form, please list Tianjin University as your Preferences of Institute I. We would like to
suggest applicants applying to Chinese Embassy or Consulate after getting Attachment 7
Acceptance Letter from TJU Supervisor or Pre-admission Letter.

② Chinese Government Scholarship (Type B)
Applicants are required to submit the application through China Scholarship Council
(CSC). Tianjin University Agency Number is 10056 for Type B. After finishing the
application, applicants need to download the Chinese Government Scholarship
Application Form and submit the signed version to ISSS.

2. Tianjin Government Scholarship (TGS)
TGS includes full and partial scholarships. The full TGS provides tuition fee subsidy,
stipend and medical insurance, while the partial one only offers tuition fee subsidy. The
scholarship has a duration of one academic year and could be applied year by year.
Applicants need to download the Attachment 11 Tianjin Government Scholarship
Application Form and submit the signed version to ISSS.

3. Tianjin University Scholarship in School of Civil Engineering and Technology
(TJUSSCET)
TJUSSCET is set by School of Civil Engineering and Technology to support prospective
international students in the English master program of Civil Engineering, Hydraulic
Engineering and Ocean and Naval Structure Engineering. TJUSSCET includes full and
partial scholarships. The full TJUSSCET provides tuition fee subsidy and stipend, while
the partial only offers stipend. It is a two-year duration scholarship, however the
scholarship winners are required to participate in annual review, and only those who pass
the annual review are eligible for next-year scholarship support.

Ⅴ Visa Application and Registration

1. Admitted students are required to provide their personal passport, Admission Letter,
the JW201/202 Form, Physical Examination Report with original test results to Chinese
Embassy or Consulate in their home country to apply for X1 Visa. Please confirm with the
above mentioned authorities for the specific requirements of X1 Visa application

documents.
2. Under normal circumstances, the university registration for fall semester is held on late
August or early September. Students are required to arrive at TJU and complete the
registration process during the dates indicated in the Admission Letter. All the
newly-admitted students should present their personal passport, Admission Letter,
JW201/202 Form, Physical Examination Report, Bachelor Degree Certificate along with
the degree authentication document upon registration for enrollment qualification review.
Students who fail the enrollment qualification review will be disqualified from enrollment.

Ⅵ Expense Standard
1. Application Fee: RMB 420.
2. Tuition Fee: Please refer to ISSS.
3. Accidental Injury and Hospitalization Insurance: RMB 800/Year
4. Accommodation:
1 Weijin Road Campus: RMB 60/day per person for one Single Room, RMB 50/day per
person for one Double Room.
2 Peiyang Park Campus: RMB 40/day per person for one Single Room.
*Due to the limited capacity for on campus accommodation, dormitory rooms must be
applied through E-mail and are distributed on a first-come,first-served basis. Those who
are not able to book the on-campus living need to find off-campus accommodation
independently.
