Solutions should be submitted till 23:59 on May 2 nd 2021, Sunday. Prepare a PDF file that consists of your
answers. You can use MATLAB/Simulink and any other numeric/symbolic solver tools while answering.
However, you have to add your code and plots into your PDF. You can get 10 points from these 5 questions.

Question 1 (2 points):

Evaluate the Fourier transform of the damped sinusoidal wave where

is the unit-step function.

Question 2 (2 points):

Determine the inverse Fourier transform of the frequency function defined by the amplitude
and phase spectra given below.

Question 3 (2 points):

The AM signal is applied to the system given below. Assume

that for all and the message signal is limited to the interval , and
that the carrier frequency . Show that can be obtained from the square-rooter output
.

Question 4 (2 points):

The local oscillator used for the demodulation of an SSB signal has a frequency error
measured with respect to the carrier frequency used to generate . Otherwise, there is perfect
synchronism between this oscillator in the receiver and the oscillator supplying the carrier wave in
the transmitter. Evaluate the demodulated signal for the following two situations:
a) The SSB signal consists of the upper sideband only.
b) The SSB signal consists of the lower sideband only.

Question 5 (2 points):

Given circuit shows a square-law modulator. The signal applied to the nonlinear device is relatively
weak, such that it can be represented by a square law , where and
are constans, is the input voltage, and is the output voltage. The input voltage is defined
by , where is the message signal and is the carrier
wave.
a) Evaluate the output voltage .
b) Specify the required frequency response of the tuned circuit (a second order filter) to satisfy
the gereration of the AM signal at its output.

Good luck!
