Chapter III

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

.This chapter presents and discusses the research method used in the

collection of the data needed in the scientific investigation of a survey on the

level of comprehension of Grade 11 students in Trent Information First Technical

Career Institute, Inc.

The purpose of this chapter is to describe the research methodology of

this study, to determine the population and sampling size, to explain the

sampling technique use in this study, to describe the respondents and the

process used in designing the instrument and collecting data and to explain the

statistical procedures used to analyze the data.

RESEARCH METHOD USED

The researchers used observation and survey method where in

observation; we’re planning to approach the participants in naturalistic way to

gather information without interacting directly with them. In this way we can get

raw data from the participants. We’ll also conduct survey after our observation to

get their thoughts directly from them. The researchers will distribute

questionnaires to the students per section to interact with them directly.

INSTRUMENTATION

The researchers will conduct a detailed survey on the Grade 11 ICT

students of TIFTCI. Both students who haven’t played any videogames and

students who played games while the school year is ongoing will be included in

this survey.

We will make a survey questionnaire that will give us detailed information

about their habit. The questionnaire will include the following aspects; 1) life

effects, 2) frequency and 3) critical thinking problems that needed a solution. It

will be in a form of mixed rating checklist and personal whereabouts.

DATA GATHERING PROCEDURES

The researches will ask for permission from the school administration and the

principal of TIFTCI to allow us conduct the study on our target respondents and

inform administration regarding the purpose of our study.

The proponents gathered the necessary information for the study by

conducting actual survey to those people who have more or less knowledge

about games. At the same time, the respondents were also requested to answer

questionnaires. Eventually, the proponents tabulated the results of the survey

from each question which able to help analyzing the problem of the study. Other

data was also gathered by the researchers from books, magazine, periodicals,

and internet.
POPULATION FRAME AND SAMPLING SCHEME

This study will conducted to the Grade 11 ICT students from TIFTCI this

study will focused on 4 sections such as section 1, section 2, section 3, and

section 4 specifically. There will be 200 target respondents assuming 40

respondents per section.

The researchers used the purposive sampling also called “deliberate

sampling” scheme, a subtle strategy in selecting the subjects/respondents who

will meet the best requirements for the purposes of the study.

DESCRIPTION OF THE RESPONDENTS

The target respondents are from TIFTCI for the School Year 2018-2019, students

are described according to their profile such as their gender, section, and status

relating on videogames. The said school currently has 4 sections for grade 11

ICT and all of them will be the researcher’s target respondents.

STATISTICAL TREATMENT OF DATA

For an objective and orderly analysis of data information obtained for the

respondents, statistical treatments were being applied such as percentage,

weighted mean. (Trochim, 2006)

1. Percentage-used to determine the percentage of respondents in

terms of age, gender and family income.

f
Formula: P= X 100
N

Where:

P= percentage

f= number of respondents

N= sum of cases

100= constant

2. Weighted Mean- a mean that is computed with extra weight given to

one or more elements of the sample.
fx
Formula Xw = ∑
N

Where: Xw = weighted mean

f= frequency of each criteria

x= grand total

N= summation of frequency
