 The core virtue ethics of the nursing profession.

 The essence of caring as a nurse is that you recognize the value and worth of those you care for and
that the patient and his or her experience matters to you.

 This is according to: (Benner & Wrubel, 1989) 26 Nov 2015

 TLC = Tender, Loving Care

 These can simply be known as The 6 Cs

 The provision of what is necessary for the health, welfare, maintenance, and protection of someone
or something.

2. Compassion

 How care is given through relationships based on empathy, respect, and dignity.

 Empathy

 Being able to understand the feelings of others without judgement.

 Putting yourself in someone else's shoes.

 The ability to understand and share the feelings of another..

3. competence

 Set of demonstrable characteristics and skills that enable and improve the efficiency or performance
of a job.

4. courage

 Means doing the right thing, speaking up when there are concerns and having the strength and
vision to innovate and work in new, different ways.

 Challenging oneself

 Facing challenges and adjustments

 The ability to do something that frightens one.

5. commitment

 It is the state or quality of being dedicated to a cause, activity, etc.

 You have to give your best.

 Taking the extra mile to do something.

6. communication

 The imparting or exchanging of information or news.

 Basic element of human interaction that allows nurses to establish maintain and improve contact
with others.

 As nurses, we need to have a certain communication process.

 We also need to learn how to communicate with patients who have sensory impairments (ex. sign
language)
