The document discusses the clutch system used in tractors. It describes how a clutch allows the tractor to change gears and disengage the gearbox from the engine by making the driving shaft stationary. The main parts of a clutch are the driving members (flywheel, pressure plate), driven member (clutch plate), and operating member (pedal, linkage). Common types of clutches include friction clutches, centrifugal clutches, diaphragm clutches, positive clutches, hydraulic clutches, and vacuum clutches.

• Tractor is required to do many jobs according to requirement
of speed and torques are varied with the help of gear box. • To change the various speed or keep the gear box in neutral position; it is necessary to move the gear from one position to another position, to engage or disengage them with the mating gears. • Shifting the gears can only be possible with the driving shaft is stationary; to make the driving shaft stationary it is necessary to introduce a device between engine & gear box, which can allow to operator to engage or disengage the gear box system from engine. This device is known as Clutch Principle of operations Main parts of clutch • Driving members • Driven member • Operating member Driving members • Driving member consist of a flywheel which mounted on the crank shaft • Fly wheel is bolted to cover which carries pressure plate, pressure spring and release lever • Fly wheel is bolted to the cover assembly; thus , the entire assembly of fly wheel and the cover rotated on the time Driven member • The driven member consist of disc or plate is called clutch plate • The clutch is free to slide on the spines of clutch shaft • It carries friction material on its both surfaces • When the clutch plate is gripped between fly wheel and pressure plate, it rotate the clutch shaft through spines Operating member • Operating member consist of foot pedal, linkage , release or throw out bearings Types of clutch • Friction clutch:- Single plate, multi plate (dry and wet) • Centrifugal clutch • Semi centrifugal clutch • Conical spring clutch or diaphragm clutch • Positive clutch/ Dog and spine clutch • Hydraulic clutch • Electromagnetic clutch • Vacuum clutch Friction clutch Centrifugal clutch diaphragm clutch Dog and spine clutch Vacuum clutch Hydraulic clutch
