1 Product Positioning and Features

1.1 Product Positioning

EP650, a hand-held device independently developed by Huawei, is a broadband trunking
terminal with powerful functions applicable to professional trunking networks. It supports
private calls, group calls, short message services (SMSs), multimedia message services
(MMSs), broadband data access, video dispatching services, and multi-service concurrency.
EP650 can be widely used in fields such as public security, energy, and transportation,
completing professional trunking dispatching, multimedia dispatching, and broadband data
access functions.

1.2 Product Features

Based on the appearance of traditional walkie talkies, the compact and robust design of EP650
is oriented towards the demand of public security. The outstanding features of EP650 are as
follows:
 Support for a wide range of frequency bands, meeting the demands on multiple
frequency bands
EP650 supports frequency bands 2.3GHz,1.8 GHz, 1.4 GHz at the same time.
 Outstanding performance, meeting the requirements of professional users
− PTT setup delay < 300 ms and call apply/call preemption delay < 150 ms
− Clear voice quality against strong background noise and application of the noise-
canceling dual-microphone (dual-MIC) technology
 Leading multimedia dispatching solution, completing site-related works using only
a terminal device
− Integrated with functions such as private calls, group calls, SMS, MMS, video
uploading, and mobile office
− Supports D1 25fps video transmission, dispatching and distribution
− Supports attached USB cameras for applications in complicated environments
− Supports one-click video uploading and one-click photo uploading

2 Application Scenarios

2.1 Overview
EP650 is a multimedia broadband trunking terminal based on the TD-LTE technology. It
allows a user to perform professional voice trunking dispatching, multimedia video
dispatching, data dispatching, and multimedia digital soldier functions.

2.2 Application Scenarios

Professional Voice Trunking Dispatching
The traditional trunking communication system focuses on professional voice trunking
dispatching, which is featured with the special dispatching function, group call function, and
fast call function. Therefore, it plays an important role in the professional communication
field. Professional voice trunking dispatching is the most important and most widely used
function of EP650 in daily work or for emergency accidents, featuring fast access, good voice
quality, and powerful noise cancellation ability. PTP calls and group calls are supported.

Multimedia Video Dispatching

At the scene of an accident, voice dispatching is hard to meet the requirements of the rear
control center. To ensure the accuracy and reliability of rear commands, onsite personnel or
rear commander can use the multimedia video dispatching function of EP650 to effectively
improve the timeliness and accuracy of dispatching. The rear camera (1.3 million pixels) of
EP650 is used for D1 25fps video uploading. In addition, the uploaded video from EP650 can
be distributed to other terminals using the dispatcher. EP650 running the video dispatching
service can also perform group calls, SMS, MMS, and GPS locating services for multimedia
and multiservice dispatching.

Product Description

Data Dispatching
EP650 also supports data dispatching such as message (SMS and MMS) dispatching, third-
party OA systems, and mail systems. Data dispatching supports point to point, point to
multipoint, and point to group dispatching, which greatly improves the efficiency of mobile
office.

Multimedia Digital Soldier Application

In some dangerous scenarios, the existing camera of an EP650 cannot fulfill the video
dispatching requirements. To address this problem, you can attach external cameras to the
EP650 over USB cables.
