Swiss – US Leaders Address Increased Skilled Labor Demands in Manufacturing

Swiss “Apprenticeship” Education and Training Model

4th Annual Swiss – U.S. Manufacturing Summit

(Washington, D.C.) On November 9, 2010, the fourth annual Manufacturing Summit hosted by
Switzerland Trade & Investment Promotion and The National Institute for Metalworking Skills (NIMS)
will feature industry leaders from Switzerland and the U.S. addressing the critical role of
apprenticeship programs; the value of public/private partnerships in training opportunities; and the
increased demand for green collar jobs which are transforming the skilled labor workforce.

U.S. industry leaders are finding common ground with the Swiss model of public/private investment
and vocational training programs, which has proven to be successful in ensuring economic stability
and growth. The manufacturing industry is transforming to meet increased skill demands with well-
paying green collar jobs that serve to ease both the employment crisis and the fiscal concerns of
employers and workers.

At the Manufacturing Summit 2010, NIMS will announce a new initiative on Green Principles for
Manufacturing, guiding the integration of green technology and green collar job training across the
spectrum of manufacturing processes.

Speakers include representatives from Congress, the White House, Swiss and American businesses
leaders, union leaders, financial investment firms, community colleges and manufacturing
associations and green/manufacturing media experts. Confirmed speakers include The Honorable
Jane Oates, Assistant Secretary of the U.S. Department of Labor; Ueli Bernhard, CEO of
Greenjobs.ch; Hans-Ulrich Bigler, President of SGV, the Trade Association of Swiss SMEs; and
Ambassador-designate of Switzerland to the U.S. Manuel Sager.

Audience participants will include approximately 200 representatives from manufacturing companies
and associations; Capitol Hill; think tanks and academia; and green industry leaders. Networking
opportunities include a special pre-conference cocktail reception on Monday evening, November 8th,
at the Ambassador’s residence at the Swiss Embassy.
