ASSESSMENT GUIDELINES FOR THE ORAL TESTS

In order to promote teachers’ and students’ familiarization with what is expected in the FCE, the
Midterm and Final Oral Tests for Advanced 1 and 2 follow the same typology as the speaking
component of the exam.
Cambridge English official criteria and scales are also to be applied when assessing students. They
can be found in the Intranet > Educação > Cursos de Inglês > Advanced > Documentos Comuns >
PET – Handbook for Teachers (pages 47, 48).
There are four aspects to be assessed. Marks given for each aspect range from 0 to 5.
To obtain the overall Midterm Oral Test score (10), the marks for each aspect should be added up
and then divided by two. This score should then be registered in the Students’ Evaluation Chart. For
example:

Grammar and Vocabulary 3.5

Total: 15 divided by 2 = 7.5 to be registered

To obtain the overall Final Oral Test score (20), the marks for each aspect should simply be added up.
This score should then be registered in the Students’ Evaluation Chart. For example:
