B/E AEROSPACE

COMPONENT MAINTENANCE MANUAL

174095 AND 174097

(3) Inhalation, exhalation and dilution valve diaphragms are molded from silicone rubber.

(4) The dilution valve spring is made of stainless steel.

(5) The economizer bag and oxygen supply tubes are polyvinyl chloride.

NOTE: Some supply tubes have a section made from extruded silicone rubber.

(6) The headband assembly is elastic lace.

(7) The flow indicator is polysulfone.

(8) The lanyard cord assemblies are braided nylon, the cord clamps have a tin plated finish, and the
snap hook is stainless steel.

E. The passenger oxygen mask assemblies are located in passenger service units, at attendant stations,
and in the lavatories throughout the aircraft.

3. Operation

A. During a passenger compartment decompression emergency, these series of oxygen mask assembly
administers oxygen to the passengers and flight attendants to support normal respiration throughout
the emergency.

B. If a decompression should occur, the oxygen masks will be automatically presented to the user. As the
user pulls the mask to his/her face, the attached lanyard cord assembly initiates the flow of oxygen.

C. Oxygen flows through the supply line and into the economizer bag. The flow will cause a green color to
be displayed in the flow indicator while oxygen is flowing and show clear when there is no flow.

D. When the user inhales, oxygen flows through the inhalation valve and fills the face cone for inhalation
by the user. As soon as the oxygen contents in economizer bag and tubing assembly are depleted by
user inhalation, ambient air is drawn through the dilution valve to complete the inhalation cycle.

E. During exhalation, slight pressure from the user's lungs will open the exhalation valve and exhaust the
unwanted gases to the atmosphere.

F. The service life of the passenger oxygen mask assembly is three years from the date of manufacture or
date of installation (if known). After three years of use, inspect annually to determine the condition of
the mask. Overhaul or replacement is recommended after six years from the date of manufacture or at
the earliest sign of material deterioration.
