The latitude and longitude of Sikkim is 27.5330°
N, 88.5122° E.

LEVEL
Almost the entire state is hilly, with an elevation
ranging from 280 metres (920 ft) in the south at
border with West Bengal to
8,586 metres (28,169 ft) in northern peaks near
Nepal and Tibet.

LOCATION
It is one of the smallest states in India. Sikkim
is bordered by the Tibet Autonomous Region of
China to the north and northeast, by Bhutan to
the southeast, by the Indian state of West
Bengal to the south, and by Nepal to the west.
The capital is Gangtok, in the southeastern part
of the state.

GEOGRAFICAL
STRUCTURE
The state of Sikkim has a total area of 7096 sq.
kms and is stretched over 112 kms from North
to South and 64 kms from East to West. It lies
in the North Eastern Himalayas between
27o00'46" to 28o07'48" North Latitude and
88o00'58" to 88o55'25" East Longitude

CLIMATE
Sikkim's climate ranges from sub-tropical in
the south to tundra in the north. Most of the
inhabited regions of Sikkim experience a
temperate climate, with temperatures seldom
exceeding 28 °C (82 °F) in summer. The
average annual temperature for most
of Sikkim is around 18 °C (64 °F).

RAINFALL AND
HUMIDTY
he highest annual rainfall for the individual
station may exceed 5000 mm. and average
number of rainy days (days withgangtok rain of
2.5 mm. or more) ranges from 100 at Thangu in
north Sikkim to 184 at Gangtok in
east Sikkim.But, as the state follows two rainy
seasons i.e Summer rain and winter rain.
