• Exclusive breastfeeding –infant receives
breast milk and allows the infant to receive
ORS, drops, syrups (vitamins, minerals,
medicines), but nothing else
• Early initiation of breastfeeding – initiating
breastfeeding of the newborn after birth
within 90 minutes of life in accordance to the
essential newborn care protocol
PROMOTING BREASTFEEDING
• To promote the practice of breastfeeding,
providing mothers and families with
adequate, accurate and timely information
and opportunities for developing necessary
skills for good breastfeeding practices is
essential.
