The beam in Figure is made of alloy of titanium that has a stress- strain diagram that can in part be approximated by
two straight lines. If the material behaviour is the same in both tension and compression, determine the bending
moment that can be applied to the beam that will cause the material at the top and bottom of the beam to be subjected
to a strain 0.05.

A T beam is bent till the lower part of the web has yielded at a stress of 300N/mm2 over a depth of 50mm, while
over the rest of the section the stress is proportional to the distance from the neutral axis (as given in the figure).
