Festivals in the Month of Magh

1) Vasant Panchami Magh Shukla Paksh-5

Vasant Panchami day is dedicated to Saraswati, the Goddess of knowledge. Goddess Saraswati is
worshipped on Vasant Panchami day. Goddess Saraswati is worshipped to get right knowledge, which leads
to Enlightenment. Educational Institutions & Temples arrange special prayers to seek the blessings of
Goddess Saraswati.

2) Rath Saptami Magh Shukla Paksh-7

Ratha Saptami or Magha Saptami is a Day Dedicated to the worship of Sun God Lord Surya. Lord
surya started enlightening the whole world on this day as it is believed that lord Surya was born on this day.
By Keeping Fast and Worshipping on this day one can get rid of all types of sins commited Knowingly or
unknowingly.

3) Bhishma Ashtami Magh Shukla Paksh-8

This day is the death anniversary of Bhishma Pitamah , who had been given the power to choose the day &
time of his Death. He is one of the most prominent Characters in the Epic Mahabharata

4) Jaya Ekadashi Magh Shukla Paksh-11

Magh Shukla Paksha Ekadashi is known as Jaya Ekadashi. It is one of the 24 Ekadashi Fastings observed
in the year.

5) Bhishma Dwadashi Magh Shukla Paksh-12

Bhisma Dwadasi is also known as Magh Shukla Dwadasi. It is widely believed that Pandavas performed
the last rites of Bhishma, the son of King Shantanu and Ganga in Mahabharata, on this day. Reciting Vishnu
Sahasranama stotra & performing Vishnu Puja are the best rituals on Bhishma Dwadasi day.

6) Guru Rohidas Janma Magh Shukla Paksh-15

Guru Ravidass Jayanti is the birthday of Guru Ravidass, celebrated on Magh Purnima, the full moon day in
the month ofMagh month. It is the annual focal point for the Ravidassia religion. On the day the Amritbani
Guru Ravidass Ji is read, thenishaan is changed ceremonially, and there is a special aarti and a Nagar Kirtan
procession bearing the guru's portrait are taken out to the accompaniment of music through the streets of the
temple locality

7) Vijaya Ekadashi Magh Krishna Paksh-11

Magh Krishna Paksha Ekadashi is known as Vijaya Ekadashi. It is one of the 24 Ekadashi Fastings
observed in the year.
8) Maha Shivratri Magh Krishna Paksh-14

According to the Puranas, during the great mythical churning of the ocean called Samudra Manthan, a pot
of poison emerged from the ocean. The gods and the demons were terrified as it could destroy the entire
world. When they ran to Shiva for help, he in order to protect the world, drank the deadly poison and saved
the world from distruction. Shivratri is dedicated to the worship of Lord shiva .
