Direction: Identify the subject of each famous Philippine artwork. Explain the possible meaning/s
according to your own interpretation.

This painting portrays the beauty of a

Filipina, a dalagang bukid wearing the
traditional clothes “saya”, this
painting also portrays the simplicity
of life that Filipinos had during their
time with those harvested rice that a
girl hugging inside the painting, that
beautiful and contented smile despite
of all the hard work in the “bukid”.
Maybe, this painting wanted to show
that life is beautiful no matter what
and where status in life you are in
right now as long as you know how to
embrace everything and just be happy
on what you have, on what life give you.
(Palay Maiden, Fernando Amorsolo,1920)

A crisis, every one of us is

facing an everyday struggle may it be
a small or a big problem, it is like a
necessity that were not going on a
day without. This painting shows a
chaotic picture of humanity, it is in
turmoil that we can barely even
understand not because it doesn’t
want to be understood but it is
complicatedly made, somethings can
easily put into words but not
shallowly made. This painting
pictures the society, too many faces
and heads to think but we’ll never
know what these people are thinking
not just for their selves but what and
how they act or think for the society
because sometimes people is the
problem, the one who’ll bring others
down for the sake of theirselves.
(Crisis in Humanity, Benedicto Cabrera,2017)
Rodrigo Duterte is the president of
our country today, at this painting we
can clearly see some famous pose and
expressions, the Philippine eagle and
the crocodile. This painting shows
what our president is doing and can
do for our country, the one who
criticize those dirty officials or the
crocodile in the government, pres.
Duterte is the one who fight not for
the position but for the war our
country is facing right now, he is
fighting for our freedom and as the
father of the Philippines, he is the
first one who’s dreaming big for the
sake of everyone.
(Duterte in the Center of Triangle, Elito
“Amang Pintor” Circa,1920)

BLUE
“If your today is rainy never forget that your tomorrow can be a clear sky. Life is always blue,
inevitably beautiful in different hue.”

I’m not a fan of blue but it always attracts me to use in some

artwork that always put me in wonder but I just realize it now; blue
carries a lot of meaning behind, blue looks so sad and gloomy yet
peaceful like the sea and clear sky.

This is my representational painting, the blue sunflower.

TRIAL AND ERROR

“Path is not always clear and straight, there are times of lost in the middle of nowhere. It always
takes a lot of wrong and mistake to find the right way.”

I started this painting without any subject aside from the thought of “lonely soul” and
doing it “abstractly”, it took me a lot of trials and error before I formulate an idea to paint. This
painting took a lot of wrong colors, wrong stroke and a wrong design that needed a cover up that
I think depicts the reality of life. Things are not always lighted in every beginning, in every way
and along the making but that is what it is, life is what it is and it is normal, we just need to keep
our spirit high, keep trying ‘til we reach the goal, ‘til we find the right way to a beautiful end.
