1. PURPOSE

The purpose of this document is to describe the effects and impacts that activation of this
BTS Software Change Delivery (CD) will have on the customer’s network and how any
new and changed functionalities will impact the operator and the end user.

2. SW UPDATE DELIVERY EFFECT

This EP1.1 CD1.0 BTS software change delivery contains:

• 9 corrections
• 2 features / changed functionality

EP1.1 CD1.0 can be background downloaded to the BCF prior to activation. Activation of
the BTS software will cause momentary loss of service in the serving cells as the BCF will
be reset. Normal operation will be resumed upon completion.

In a 2+2+2 WBC, using a dedicated 64K O&M link, the software download and activation
times are typically:
Background software download : ~ 22 minutes
Software activation : ~ 2½ minutes (no service during this time)
In addition, final hardware for the RTC (ECxA) is not available at the time of EP1.1 CD1.0
release. The RTC has also not been piloted in a live network and for this reason, it is not
recommended to use the EP1.1 CD1.0 (or any previous BTS software release) when the
RTC becomes available.

3. EFFECTS ON END USER

3.1 25076CNESPE05 NO GPRS activity in few cells

End user data services such as web browsing, email sending/retrieving etc. will be
continuous and un-interrupted.

4. EFFECTS ON OPERATOR

4.1 25076CNESPE05 NO GPRS activity in few cells (1-345341391)

Impact on the Operator:

Corrections are implemented into the System Module Microcode.

Effects on the Operator:

In BTS where (E)GPRS is activated (GENA=Y, EGENA=Y) synchronisation and
therefore availability of packet data channels is maintained.

Benefit to the Operator:

This change removes the BCF ID mismatch checking feature and therefore BCF
Operation Degraded Alarm 7601 "Commissioning failed due to BCF ID mismatch
between commissioning file and BSC" will not be raised if the BCF ID used in the
commissioning phase is not the same as the actual BCF ID as seen by the BSC.
