Q1) Discuss in brief the differences between the fossil-fuel sources and renewable based
sources.

Q2) Explain the principles of operation of Hydroelectric Power, Wind Power, and Fuel Cells.

Q3) State the main items which used for the comparison between different types of power
plants.

Q4) Draw load curve samples of the following types of loads: Residential load, Irrigation
load, Traction load, Street lighting, and Industrial load.

Q5) A power station supplies four regions of loads whose peak demands are 10MW, 5MW,
8MW, 7MW. The diversity factor of the loads at the station is 1.5 and the annual load factor
is 60%.
Determine:
a) The maximum demand on the station.
b) The annual energy supplied from the station.

Q6) A power station has a total connected load of 43MW and maximum demand of 20MW.
The station generates annual energy of 61.5*106 Kwh.
Determine:
a) Demand factor
b) Annual load factor

Q7) A power station has a maximum demand of 80MW and daily load curve is defined as
following:
Time (h) 0-6 6-8 8-12 12-14 14-18 18-22 22-24
Load (MW) 40 50 60 50 70 80 40

Determine:
a) Draw the load curve, load duration curve, and mass curve.
b) The load factor of the power station.
c) The use factor of the standby equipment rated at 25MW that takes up all loads in
excess of 60MW.

Q8) A central power station has annual factors as follows:

Load factor=60%, Capacity factor=40%, Use factor=45%. The power station has a maximum
demand of 15MW.
Determine:
a) Annual energy production.
b) Reserve capacity over and above peak load.

c) Hours per year not in the service.

Q9) A substation supplies three primary feeders. The 0.5-hour annual maximum demands are
1800KW and pf=0.95 for feeder 1, 2000KW and pf=0.85 for feeder 2, 2200KW and pf=0.9
for feeder 3. If the diversity factor for both active and reactive power among the three feeders
is 1.15. Estimate the maximum demand (KW and KVA) on the substation, the load diversity.
If the load will increase at % constant rate and will double in 10 years. How many years will a
transformer of 7600/9375 KVA be loaded to its fans on rating.

Q10) Assume that the loading data given in the table below belongs to one of the primary
feeders. They are for a typical winter day. Develop the idealized daily load curves, load
duration curves and mass curves. Then, calculate the following factors:
Load factor, diversity factor, and utilization factor. If the rated capacity is 2000 KW

Q11) A power station has 70% load factor, 45% capacity factor, use factor 64% and
maximum demand of 18MW. Determine the annual energy production, reserve capacity over
peak load, and hours per year are not in service.

Q12) for a given load, if the voltage limits across the load terminals are ±10% and the supply
frequency limits are ±5%. Find the load power limits based on the general load model
formula.
