Cpr E 494: Ethics Paper

As a prospective federal employee, it is my responsibility and privilege to uphold

the highest ethical standards. I will actively lead with compassion, and with a desire to
understand. I shall show courage in the face of adversity. I will stay committed to my
nation and its people. The oath I shall speak on my first day of federal service is as
follows:

“I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States

against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith

and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without

any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well

and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about

to enter. So help me God.”

It is my privilege to uphold the safety and security of my nation and its people; to
approach problems with the intention to understand and peacefully resolve them; to avoid
and denounce unlawful action; to treat others with respect and fairness; to stand up and
speak out against harmful action; to actively acknowledge and encourage diversity such
as race, religion, disabilities, sexual orientation, gender identity, and expression, age,
nationality, and sex.
