DAILY SITUATIONS
THAT INVOLVES
TRANSFORMATION OF
ENERGY

GROUP 3
Example One
The movement of a roller coaster is accomplished by
the conversion of potential energy to kinetic energy
Explaination
01 Maximum potential energy gain at start of ride

02 Maximum kinetic energy just as the coaster cars passes through the
bottom of the loop.
03 Each loop is slightly lower than the previous one because the coaster
car loses energy as it goes.
04 Centripetal force provided by track pushing against coaster car to
allow it to" loop the loop"
05 Coaster car has less energy at the end of the ride than at the start
due to friction and air resistance.
Example Two

Weapons such as cannons, shotguns, and rifles,

work on the basic idea of conservation of
momentum and the change in energy from potential
to kinetic. In a pistol, the energy changes from elastic
to kinetic as the spring inside the pistol helps fire
the bullet.
