Introduction

Computers have become omnipresent and

ubiquitous today and found in every walk of life.
Computer influence every sphere of human
activity and bring many changes in education,
health care, scientific research, social sciences,
law, music and painting.

A computer is defined as an electronic

equipment which can store information & data
which can be retrieved form as and when
required
What is Computer Teaching

Strategies?

Is a method that uses technology in

teaching.

3 TYPES OF COMPUTER
TEACHING STRATEGIES:

• Computer Assisted
Instruction

• Internet

• Visual Reality
What is Computer Assissted

Instructions (CAI) ?

Computer assisted instruction (CAI) is defined as the use of the

computer in the delivery of instruction that refers to the online
direct interactive learning technique through the computerwhereby
a computer is used to present the instructional material and
monitor the learning that takes place.

A self-learning technique, usually offlinet/online, involving

interaction of the student with programmed instructional material.

CAI uses a combination of text, graphics, sound and video in

enhancing the learning process.
Con't..

"When the computer is used as an aid to teaching method of

instruction is called computer assisted instruction.”
- K.P.Neeraja

Instructional activities that uses a computer as the primary

vehicle for teaching content or process rather than one to
one interaction with a student.
- Miller keane Dictionary & encyclopedia
CAI provides: 1. text or multimedia content

2. multiple-choice questions

3. problems

4. immediate feedback

5. notes on incorrect responses

6. summarizes students performance

7. exercises for practice

8. Worksheets and tests

Modes of Computer Assisted

Instructions (CAI)

1. Drill and practice provide opportunities or students to repeatedly

the skills that have previously been presented and that further practice is necessary
for mastery.

2. Tutorial Mode program that tutors or teaches the student a body of knowledge by
presenting information and asking questions ,giving hints if students. Tutorials can
free the faculty members from teaching some of the routine basic material. At the
same time the students may find the tutorials more interesting and fun than the
instructor’s lecture.

3. Games often creates a contest to achieve the highest score and either beat others
or beat the computer. The extend of learning depends on the type of game. E.g.
Games on spelling’s, name of places and general knowledge.
Modes of Computer Assisted

Instructions (CAI)

4. Simulation can provide an approximation of reality

that does not require the expense of real life or its risks.

5. Discovery approach provides a large database of information specific

to a course or content area and challenges the learner to analyze,
compare, infer and evaluate based on their explorations of the data.

6. Problem Solving This approach helps children develop specific

problem solving skills and strategies.
What is Internet?

Internet is a global system of interconnected computer

networks that use the standard Internet Protocol suite (IP) to
serve billions of users worldwide.

Educational material levels from pre-school to post-doctoral is

available from websites in the internet.

The Internet in general and the World Wide Web in particular

are important enablers of both formal and informal education.
Con't..

It is used as a resource for problems, answers, ideas

and more. Can be used in a “how to research” lesson.
A group can cheaply communicate and discuss ideas
via chatting and online conference (online class)
Messages can be exchanged even more quickly and
conveniently via email or online chat. May allow files to
be exchanged, drawings and images to be shared, or
voice and video
What is Virtual Reality (VR) ?

Virtual Reality (VR) is a computer- based, simulated three-

dimensional environment in which the participant interacts
with a virtual world. Only in virtual reality can the learner enter
a virtual world and feel an object, move it, and measure its
movement.

is the use of computer technology to create a simulated

environment. Unlike traditional user interfaces, VR places the
user inside an experience. Instead of viewing a screen in front
of them, users are immersed and able to interact with 3D
worlds.
