Albert Gore, Jr.


Albert Gore, Jr., born March 31, 1948, a U.S. representative (1977 – 1985) and
senator (1985 – 1992) from Tennessee, was elected to the U.S. vice presidency on a
Democratic ticket with Governor Bill Clinton of Arkansas in 1992. He is the son of
Albert Gore, Sr., who was also a congressman and senator. After graduation (1969)
from Harvard, Al Gore served (1969 – 1971) in the army, with a tour of duty in
Vietnam, then attended divinity school and Law school at Vanderbilt. His expertise as
a moderate liberal ranges from foreign policy and health-related issues in general to
arms control and environmentalism in particular. Gore ran unsuccessfully in 1998
presidential primaries. He wrote Earth in the Balance: Ecology and Human Spirit
(1992).
