The purpose of this activity is to present the research framework, discuss Tanja Gönner (Chair)

triggers of violent conflict, including extremist violence, shadow economies,


identity-related violence and resource conflicts. Alert has produced
cuttingedge research on shadow economies in Mindanao, developed the
pioneering and innovative sub-national conflict incident monitoring system
(www.conflictalert.info) to understand the causes and cost of conflict and
how these can be mitigated. Alert also runs a strong youth and women's
program to fight discrimination and promote their meaningful socio-economic
and political participation and peace processes through facilitation, issue
based dialogue, and cooperation across conflict divides.
