ZERO & FIRST CONDITIONALS

ZERO
We use the zero conditional to state general truths:

If you heat ice, it melts. (Ice melts if I heat it)


When I’m short of sleep, I always get a headache.
(I always get a headache when I’m short of sleep)

If + present tense + comma + present tense

a. Teenagers ___get _ ______bored if they cannot spend time with their friends.
b. If you ___have ______ a lot of friends, you always have someone to talk to.

FIRST
1. We use it to describe a real situation and a possible result:
If my friend texts me, I’ll go to her house. (I’ll go to her house if my friend texts me)
When my friend texts me, I’ll go to her house.
If I work late, I’ll be too tired to go out. (I’ll be too tired if I work late)
2. We can use might, may and could to make the sentence less certain:
If I don’t practice regularly, I could fail my English test.
If I work late, I may be too tired to go out.

a. Diego will have a party if ___ ____he is good_________.


b. If Marco works really hard, he may__ __achieve his goals_________.
c. Don’t leave your wallet in your desk if __ _you will go out___ __.
