Reflection Paper: Borobudur Temple, Indonesia

As I watched the short documentary video about the Borobudur Temple in

Indonesia, I learned a lot of facts and knowledge about the temple history and

functions. This massive Buddhist temple is an art of architecture and geometry where

a lot of effort by the builders is exerted. The more the way you look closer in the

temple the more you see the on-point details of the structure. The temple is

surrounded by a little stupa with statue of buddha inside of it representing different

symbols, and the entire site is surrounded by 504 statues of Buddha.

This temple symbolizes enlightenment and spiritual journey, it has nine levels

before reaching the top of it. What I like about this temple is the sculptures on every

wall of the temple and its decorative elements that is very detailed. You can see the

effort exerted to build this spiritual temple, that they offer to their worshipping god.

The temple was built around 8 th to 9th century and then abandoned, but despite of the

many years passed by, it is still preserved and standing, and now it became a tourist

attraction and one of the historical places and structures in Indonesia. When I saw the

temple on the video, I amazed by the size and how massive it is in real life, it is a

meaningful temple that is very important in the history of Indonesia. This temple is

one of the best Indonesian temples that is built, and I hope one day I could visit this

temple and see all the details about the Borobudur temple.
