PERFORMANCE TASK – RESEARCH OUTPUT PART 2

WRITING THE REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE

The Review of Related Literature is the synthesis of information gathered and coded as part of the research process. Each Axial
Codes are arranged to create a synthesis of information which explains each causal relationship among codes and keywords.
These will then create a flow of information that enables the researcher apply the analytical features of the Literature Review
(see Lesson 4.1)

Follow the steps below to compose each synthesis of your Literature Review:

Title Must be all Upper Case and indicate the Chapter and Part Label below it, highlighted (bold), and set at the
center of the page.
CHAPTER II
REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE

Combining List down all open codes and keywords identified from Activity 1 and Activity 3. Follow example below:
Keywords and (Codes and Keywords extracted from the Research Topic: Peso-Dollar Exchange Rate: Effects in the
Codes to Create a Philippines.)
Synthesis.
Asian Crisis Economic Growth Overseas Filipino Workers
Currency Exchange Rate Remittances
Financial System Investments

The flow of each synthesis should follow this sequence as applies:

1. Origin of subject (History) or Local Situation (informative of the current situation)
2. International or External (Specify countries, indicate statistics if applicable or available)
3. Comparison (Provide a comparison based on findings, only if information is available)
4. Final Synthesis (Any synthesis that identifies the research gap)

Add terms to support and make sense of each subtopic. See example outline:

CHAPTER II
REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE

1.1. Overseas Filipino Workers and their Remittances and how it affects Economic Growth

1.2 The Asian Financial Crisis

1.3 Investments and Exchange Rates in the ASEAN

1.4 The Philippine Financial System: Intricacies and dependencies to Dollar Remittances

The content of each synthesis comes from each Axial Codes that will link the Open Codes and Keywords
(underlined and in bold letters). Supporting Sentences and Statement can be used and combined to form
a coherent and more comprehensive Review of Related Literature. Do not forget to cite respective
references from which each Axial Codes came from.

Follow the APA Citation Guideline Attached on this Worksheet.

APA Citation Guide

This is an overview of the American Psychological Association’s style of citation and writing. It is based on the sixth edition of
the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (APA Publication Manual). For additional information and
examples, consult the copy of the handbook that is available in your respective groups.

WHY CITE SOURCES?

When writing a paper, we often build upon the information and ideas of others. When information is borrowed
from others, we must give them credit. Citing sources accomplishes the following:

~ provides a way to give proper credit to the sources used in writing the paper
~ enables the reader to find the information for themselves
~ adds credibility and provides strength for your arguments

WHEN TO CITE SOURCES?

Credit must be given whenever:
1. quoting from a source (copying from the source word for word)
2. summarizing or rephrasing information from a source into one's own words

HOW TO CITE SOURCES?

APA style requires 2 elements:

1. IN-TEXT REFERENCES
~ located in the text of the paper
~ tells the reader what information was borrowed and where it came from

2. A LIST OF REFERENCES
~ located at the end of the paper
~ tells the reader what sources were used to write the paper and provides complete information about the sources

The in-text references and list of references work together to give complete credit to the sources that are used in writing the
paper. The in-text reference in the paper should correspond with the beginning of the citation in the list of references.
