STRATEGIC MANAGEMENT

Course Objectives : To provide conceptual knowledge about the basic


concepts of Strategic Management through advanced tools and techniques and to
provide a basic understanding of the nature and dynamics of strategy formulation
and implementation as they occur in complex organizations.

Learning Outcome :
 To encourage students to think critically and strategically.
 To develop the student's ability to identify strategic issues and design
appropriate courses of action.
 To integrate the functional areas of management and to enable understand
business from a strategy formulation and implementation perspective.

Meaning and definition of Strategy, Strategic Management, Nature and Scope of
Strategic Management, Definitions -Vision, Mission, Objectives, Policies –
Factors that shape a company‘s strategy - Crafting a strategy for competitive
advantage.

UNIT II (Strategy Analysis : Tools and Techniques) 12 HOURS


Concept of environmental analysis and appraisal, Core competence - SWOT
Analysis, Mc Kinsey 7-S framework, Porter's Five Force Model - Strategic
Management Model.

UNIT III ( Strategy Formulation) 12 HOURS


Process of Strategy Formulation - Types of Strategies - Formulation of strategy at
corporate, business and functional levels - Reason for Strategy Failure and
Methods to overcome.

UNIT IV ( Strategy Implementation) 12 HOURS


Introduction - Stages of Strategy Implementation - Importance of Resource
Allocation as a vital part of strategy - Tailoring strategy to fit specific industries
(Emerging Industries  Maturing Industries  Declining Industries  Fragmented
Industries  Turbulent, High-Velocity Markets)

UNIT V ( Strategic Control) 12 HOURS


Steps for Strategic Control - Role of the strategist - Difference between Strategic
