LESSON 1: IMPORTANCE OF RESEARCH IN DAILY LIFE

What is Research?
 It is defined as an investigation done in a systematic manner to reveal a particular truth about a
topic, phenomenon or reality.
 It is a careful study that is done to find and report new knowledge about something.

**It all starts with inquiry… to look for information by asking questions about the thing that you are
curious about.

Importance of Research
1. Research provides a scientific basis for any practice in any field.
2. Research is undertaken for the continuous development and further productivity in any field.
3. Research provides solutions to problems concerning at most all issues encountered in the different
areas of work.
4. Research aims to advance the personal and professional qualifications of a practitioner.

LESSON 2: CHARACTERISTICS, PROCESSES, AND ETHICS OF RESEARCH

CHARACTERISTICS OF RESEARCH:

ETHICS OF RESEARCH:

LESSON 3: QUANTITATIVE AND QUALITATIVE RESEARCH

QUANTITATIVE RESEARCH DESIGN

 It investigates a social phenomenon using statistics and mathematics.
 It uses objective and quantifiable measurements gathered through surveys, questionnaires and polls
ADVANTAGES
 Allows the researcher to measure and analyze data
 Relationship between variables is studied in detail, which makes the research more objective
 Used to test hypotheses in experiments because of its ability to measure data using statistics

DISADVANTAGES
 The context of the study is ignored
 Does not study things in a natural setting
 The timeline, complexity, and cost will increase when using larger number of samples

QUALITATIVE RESEARCH DESIGN

 It looks into meanings, perspectives, experiences and processes that are not easily quantified.
 Focus is on providing depth and detail to the phenomenon under study

ADVANTAGES
 Does not need a strict design plan before it begins.
 Gains more detailed data in the form of comprehensive written descriptions or visual evidence
 Looks at context and social meaning and how it affects individuals.

DISADVANTAGES
 Prone to subjectivity or biases
 Very time-consuming and can last for months and even years.

ACTIVITY SHEET
ACTIVITY 1: In a ½ crosswise paper, list down the differences and similarities of quantitative and
qualitative research using a Venn Diagram. You may consult the internet for this activity. Attach your
work on your learning material.
Template Sample:

ACTIVITY 2: Write TRUE if the statement is correct, FALSE if it is incorrect.

__________1. Research starts with inquiry.
__________2. Research is mere information gathering.
__________3. All efforts of improvement are research-based.
__________4. Research is not an important aspect of any organization.
__________5. Research is needed to investigate and expose the truth.

ACTIVITY 3: Despite health efforts, significant gaps and challenges exist while the world faces this
COVID-19 global pandemic. What do you think could be the role of research in solving this problem?
list down three possible solutions that research can do for us to overcome this health crisis.
