In Math, students will continue to build their understanding of numbers, they will further develop place value

concepts. They will review and learn addition and subtraction strategies, and use the hundred charts to find
patterns.
To support your child at home:
*Play addition and subtraction games to improve fluency.
In Reading, over the next few weeks, we will be instilling reading habits to help students build their reading
lives. Readers will choose and read just-right books. They will share and discuss books, use contextual clues to
help them determine the meanings of unfamiliar words, and use clues and inferencing skills to help them make
predictions.
To support your child at home:
*Encourage your child to read for a minimum of 20 minutes every day.
*Remind your child that readers practice good reading habits at both school and home. Readers find
quiet reading spots, choose books they love, and talk about their books with others.
In Writing, this week students will be reading small moment stories by famous authors. They will begin
generating and drafting their own narrative stories based on their life experiences. They will generate ideas
based on strong feeling moments, special people, and special places. They will practice writing narratives as
they build writing stamina.
To support your child at home:
* Talk to your child about finding “seed ideas” or special moments (it can be an ordinary moment) that
can be a great story to write.

when students are required to stay home due to COVID related quarantine. Unfortunately, if the student
is absent for a short period of time we do not have an online learning program.

longer be able to bring food from outside school
● Students should wear their PE uniform (ISP shorts and pod shirt on PE days and days when they stay for
an after school sport practice)

In writing we are all thinking of special moments we can remember and write about. Talk about special
events or activities your family has participated in. Help your child remember some details about these
events. Make a list of the people and activities your child could write about. Use the organizer below to
help make your list.

We can also remember moments when we have felt strong emotions. Use this memory hand to remember
and organize feeling moments.
