The Delhi-based organisation, Rekhta, that put


REKHTA Urdu on the cultural map presents their much-
RECITALS & loved Jashn-e-Rekhta festival this week. In the
RAMBLINGS coming days, listen to Priyanka Barve, who plays
Anarkali in Feroze Abbas Khan’s Mughal-e-Azam,
sing ghazals (April 24), while playback singer
Javed Ali takes you on a Sufi journey (April 25).
Poet Shakeel Jamali talks about shayariand
talaffuz(April 23), and there will be a session by
actor Shabana Azmi and poet Javed Akhtar
(pictured)on April 26.

Among the virtual concerts, the Udupa Music


UDUPA Festival seems to be one of the most organised
MUSIC platforms. Created by ghatam player Giridhar
Udupa, the festival features artistes such as

(pictured), flute legend Pt Hariprasad Chaurasia,
Visit shaale.comfor registration singer and composer Shankar Mahadevan, guitar
legend John Mclaughlin, flautist Pt Ronu
Majumdar, percussionists Pt Yogesh Shamsi, Pt
Vijay Ghate, Ojas Adhiya and Pt Shubhankar
Banerjee, and vocalist Abhishek Raghuram.
What’s also interesting is that these concerts are
monetised. Priced at Rs 1,200, the proceeds
from the tickets will support musicians facing
financial crisis at this point.

Geography does not matter in times of a pandemic. Lady Gaga showed us that with the recent
‘The One World: Together at Home’ broadcast. Coming up is Paul McCartney’s live concert on April 26
and Coldplay’s performance on April 30. Producer Diplo, Dillon Francis and DoorDash have also come
together for Coronight Fever, back-to-back livestream DJ set, on Twitch and YouTube, to donate meals
to those in need through the Feeding America initiative.

Grammy Museum, Los Angeles, also has an
expansive digital initiative and has opened its
archives and made conversations available.
Other concert halls across the globe such as the
Berlin Philharmonie, the New York Metropolitan
Opera, The Royal Opera House and London
Symphony Orchestra are also sharing their
content online.
