Welcome to Third Grade

with Mrs. Lawrence

Dear Parents, 9-7-21
Welcome to our class! I am very excited to be your child’s teacher. In my opinion, Third grade is
the most exciting year. There is so much growth that occurs this year and I truly feel lucky to be part of
that.
Grades
One of the big changes this year is that your child now receives grades, therefore all work is
accounted for. If your child brings home a green folder, it is unfinished classwork that wasn’t
completed in the time allotted. This needs to be done that evening and returned the next day. If you see
a green folder regularly, there might be a problem with work habits.

Work see a stamp or star.
Over the weekend is when I get a chance to catch up on grading papers. So, Monday is the day for
corrected papers, newsletters, and more to go home in their “SCHOOL FOLDER”. Please watch for
work with D’s & E’s (Stamped TRY AGAIN). These need to be redone and returned as soon as
possible. This gives the student one chance to improve their grade and most importantly to learn from
their mistakes. If all mistakes are corrected, the grade will be changed to a C.
Weekly Work will also go home on Monday and is due back on Thursday. This is their
Homework. It will be practice and most students will be able to complete this without any assistance
from you.
Communication

I will be using Class DoJo as a fun and easy way to send/receive messages and let you see
what is happening in the classroom. You can send me messages, which are just like
texts, and I will answer you late into the evening. There is also a Class Story on which I
frequently post pictures to share the fun things we are doing in school.
Please sign up right away. Easy instructions are attached.
(Even grandparents can join.) ~ more on the back ~

Open communication is very important. Please don’t ever feel as if you are bothering me, just send a
DoJo message. I’ll do my best to send reminders and keep you updated. Class DoJo is super great for this.
You can also email me at dlawrence@abs.misd.net; however, that is only checked in the morning and
after school.

I look forward to working with you and creating one of the best school years ever!
