Findings & Analysis:

1to1 Interview:

I have conducted a 1to1 interview for the findings and analysis regarding our topic ‘Impact of
Indian and Western Culture on Urban Youth of Bangladesh and how it affects Bangladeshi
Wedding Celebration’ where i have asked my respondent a few questions in the interview
session.
And the first question to the respondent was “What comes first in your mind when you hear
Bangladeshi traditional wedding?” He said “Gaye holud”. This is an important pre wedding
tradition at Bengali weddings. It’s one of the most enjoyable events to him in weddings which he
loves to attend.
Then the second question was ‘‘When was the last time you attended a wedding? Can you
describe some activities that took place in the ceremony? What significant changes do you see
while attending wedding ceremonies??” Here, my respondent replied, He last attended a
wedding ceremony was in 2019. Because of this pandemic covid situation he skipped any kind
wedding ceremony. His attended wedding ceremony was at Kishoreganj. There he found some
changes in wedding foods. He shared, Kishoreganj people love to serve many types of
freshwater fishes in their wedding and about attires, the groom was wearing a heavy sherwani,
prince coat and the bride was wearing Indian lehenga.
In the third question, respondent was asked, “When was the last time you attended a ‘Gaye
Holud’ event? Can you describe some activities that took place in the event?” So, He last
attended a ‘Gaye Holud’ event was also in 2019, the same year he attended that wedding,
songs played in the background were hindi wedding songs. At that gaye holud there are many
fun activities like group dance , single dance performance, matching attires group dance, dj
party etc.
My fourth question to the respondent was “Do you feel that traditional Bangladeshi wedding
activities, attires are being less highlighted in weddings nowadays? Please elaborate”. Here, he
felt that traditional Bangladeshi wedding activities, attires are being less highlighted in weddings
nowadays because of urban culture. People are giving more priority to different cultural wedding
activities. They love to wear Indian dresses in their wedding and also do similar events from
Indian wedding ceremonies. But for the food purpose they kept bangladeshi food like kacchi ,
tehari , borhani , jali kabab and all.
In the fifth question he was asked “If you had to organize a wedding or Gaye Holud, name some
activities, attires, food, music you would choose?” Respondent said, he will choose a mixed
culture wedding ceremony to organize a ceremony. Because he loves both traditional and
western culture styles in weddings. And to him some changes are good changes.
Sixth number question was “Do you think nowadays we celebrate wedding ceremonies following
our tradition?” Here, he strongly believes that nowadays we are not celebrating the wedding
ceremonies following our tradition.
In the seventh question I asked to my respondent, “Why are people adopting different cultures
in wedding ceremonies?? Share your Opinion”. He said people are adopting different cultures in
wedding ceremonies Because of the urban culture , upgraded lifestyle and freedom.
He thinks nowadays girls are more capable to take any big decision of their lives. They have
more freedom that they can select wedding event places , food , decorations , dresses and
many things by adopting the outside country's culture. This thing impacts huge in this matter.
And boys also love to follow western culture stuff in their wedding as well. So, we can see
people are loving adopting different culture’s stuff in their wedding events.
And my last question was, a straightforward question which was “Do you think foreign cultures’
influence on wedding celebration is okay?” He replied with a ‘Yes’, foreign cultures’ influence on
wedding celebration is pretty much okay to him.

So, from this 1to1 interview overall I have found out that the respondent believes that Indian and
western culture weddings affect our Bangladeshi wedding. But he is accepting some of it in a
good way when it comes to having fun and enjoyment with all the people together. After all, a
wedding is a precious and enjoyable event in everyone’s life. So he prefers indian and western
(mixed culture) for the bangladeshi wedding events.

Respondent:
Age- 27
Marital Status: Unmarried
Occupation- Graduated, Business Man.
