Specialized Subject Description: This course introduces the students to the basic concepts and vital elements of politics and governance from a historical-institutional perspective. In particular, it
attempts to explain how the important features of our country’s political structures/institutions, processes, and relationships developed across time. In the process, the course helps the learners gain a better
appreciation of their rights and responsibilities as individuals and as members of the larger socio-political community to strengthen their civic competence.

Performance Task:

The May 2022 elections is fast approaching, campaign ads and activities are starting done to earn the vote of the voting public. You are a social scientist who is equipped with theories in analysing
the situations that involves the society. Hence, you were approached by a famous columnist in the Philippine Daily Inquirer to write for an article regarding the theoretical analysis of the occurrence
of elections in the country. In your goal to appeal to the public, you decided that since it is your first article, you are to use the Marxist Theory/Conflict Theory in your analysis of elections and
campaigning in the Philippines. Your output will be published under the Philippine Daily Inquirer and will be widely read in the country. It will be evaluated according the following criteria:

Narrative extends clear and critical thoughts/ ideas: Presents the topic (background information and description of issue) clearly, critically, and comprehensively. [20 points]

Tone and Focus Awareness of Audience: Specific to the target audience [10 points]
