Chapter 5

THE NAMES AND THE RESPONSIBILITIES

Allah has created many different creatures. Some of them we can see,
like the beautiful birds in the sky, the Elephants in the wild, the fish in
the sea, and human beings who are the noblest and most favoured of
creatures.

But Allah has also made creatures that we cannot see! Do you know what
they are?

One type of creature that we cannot see are called Al Malaikah or the
Angels. Angels are a form of spiritual beings created by Allah to perform
various assigned duties. There are numerous angels. They are bound to
obey the commands of Allah. They pray and worship and glorify Allah
some carry the throne of Allah, some help Muslims in times of need (like
the battle of Badr), others are appointed to keep record of people’s

deeds (good and bad deeds). Angels have different kind of jobs.
Controlling the maintenance of the universe and the operation of the
laws of nature. Glorify Allah with His praise all the time.

Belief in the Angels is a fundamental part of Iman (faith), just like the
belief in Tawheed/Tauhid (Oneness of Allah) and the Risalah (Prophet-
hood).

This belief gives the validity to our faith. There are many things which
we can’t see with our own eyes like germs but we believe. Similarly,
Angels do not possess any fixed material form. They cannot be seen with
our physical eyes due to our limited faculties. They are spirit, are made
of light. So we can’t deny their presence otherwise, it will take us out of
the fold of Islam. Our deeds will be nullified.

Here are some Angles description from Qur’an:

• Angels are Allah’s wise and intelligent creatures and honored

servants . 21:26

• They always obey Allah and never do sins.21:27

• They are constantly busy rosary and consecration to God : and
they ask forgiveness for those who are on the ground “. 26:5

The angels are many, and their number is known only to Allah. The
Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, describing the
Much-Frequented House (al-Bayt al-M’amoor) in the seventh heaven:

“Then I was taken up to the Much-Frequented House: every day seventy

thousand angels visit it and leave, never returning to it again, another
[group] coming after them.” [al-Bukhaari].
