Research Proposal

Date: July 24, 2021

From- Abrarul Haque ID- 1931872630, ENG 105, SECTION- 19
Subject: Proposal to research a topic about the effects of deforestation on African Gorillas

Introduction:
Gorillas are herbivorous, ground-dwelling giant apes that live in the tropical forests of central
Sub-Saharan Africa. Gorillas are split into two species: eastern and western gorillas, with either
four or five subspecies each. They are the world's largest primates. The natural habitat of gorillas
in Sub-Saharan Africa is tropical or subtropical woodland. Gorillas traverse a wide range of
elevations, despite the fact that their range only covers a small portion of Sub-Saharan Africa.
The Albertine Rift montane cloud forests of the Virunga Volcanoes, which range in altitude from
2,200 to 4,300 meters, are home to the mountain gorilla (7,200 to 14,100 ft). Lowland gorillas
reside in deep woods and lowland swamps and marshes as low as sea level, with western
lowland gorillas found in Central West African countries and eastern lowland gorillas found
along Rwanda's border.

RESEARCH QUESTIONS:

• Question 1. Where do the mountain gorillas live?

• Question 2. What is the greatest current threat to the Mountain Gorilla?
• Question 3. Are there other types of Gorillas?
• Question 4. How many gorillas are there in the world?
• Question 5. How can I help protect the Mountain Gorilla from extinction?
• Question 6. Are mountain gorillas friendly?
• Question 7. Are mountain gorillas biologically similar to human beings?
• Question 8. Are Mountain Gorillas independent, or do they live in groups?
• Question 9. Would it be possible to see a Mountain Gorilla in a zoo?
• Question 10. What is a Mountain Gorilla's typical day like?
• Question 11. What type of food do mountain gorillas eat?
• Question 12. What is the average life span of a mountain gorilla?
• Question 13. How many babies do female gorillas have?
• Question 14. How long do baby gorillas stay with their mothers?
Hypothesis:
Commercial logging interests, subsistence agriculture, and road-building operations are
rapidly destroying forests. This makes it more difficult for gorillas to survive. A close
correlation exists between habitat destruction and the bushmeat trade. Mountain gorillas
are a huge, powerful ape that lives on Africa's volcanic slopes. They have few natural
predators. Despite this, the mountain gorilla, a subspecies of the eastern gorilla, has
become the most endangered variety of gorilla due to harmful human activities such as
poaching, civil strife, and habitat destruction. Despite their significant economic, cultural,
and aesthetic significance to many people throughout the world, gorillas' survival is in
jeopardy. Poaching, habitat degradation and loss due to mining, logging, and
agriculture, and diseases, most notably Ebola, are the principal dangers.

Research Methodology:
For my primary research, I planned to survey the general people of Bangladesh who are activeon
a social media platform and interview some of them to find out issues about the situation of
extinction on African Gorillas. I will prepare a questionnaire having several questions to get
different useful views which would help me to explain the answers to my research questions.

For my secondary research, I want to use the internet and find information through journals,
articles, blogs, e-news, and videos from standard search engines like Google, Google Scholar,

YouTube, Facebook posts, and also Ted talks.

Organization:
My research will be categorized into several sections and the most essential parts would be
Introduction, Background, Data presentation and Analysis, and Summary of Findings.
Within the sections, my arrangement would be based on my research questions.

TIMETABLE
I plan to complete writing and submit my final research paper on 24th july 2021.
REQUEST FOR APPROVAL
I sincerely request you to approve my research proposal. If you want to make any alterations to
my research proposal, I will submit it after making the required changes. Also, I look forward to
your advice which would help me to conduct my research proposal and complete the project.
