 What is the name or title of the field trip? Body Confidence Virtual Field Trip
 What is the url for the field trip? https://www.amazingmeselfesteem.com/virtual-field-
trip/
 Who created or sponsored it? The Dove Self Esteem Project and Discovery Education
 What grade level is it for? 4th and 5th grade students
 Why did you pick this one? This field trip stood out to be for several reasons. One of
the reasons is, I am a huge advocate on self-esteem, positive body image, and self-love. I
found this virtual field trip to be “one of a kind” because I feel that it is a topic that is
not discussed nearly enough, and especially a topic that is not discussed well in school. I
think it is great to instill body confidence in children at an early age, after all, they grow
up believing what they hear and see in their early ages of learning.
 What will you have students do for this lesson - other than just exploring the site or
watching the video? While watching the video is fun, there should be something else to the
experience, otherwise it's a meaningless activity. This specific virtual field trip has
amazing resources to follow up the videos; they included work sheets, group activities,
and reflection opportunities. I looked through the resources and I find them very
helpful. On top of those ideas, I would have children draw a picture of how they view
themselves, list traits the love about themselves, and then share with a partner. If they
wanted to, I would also allow them to share with the class.
 What are some of the pros for doing a field trip in this way? A few pros for doing a field
trip in this way is: it allows children the opportunity to use technology as a resource of
learning, it allows children to further research information related to the virtual field
trip, children can go back and reference the field trip at any time, and it allows filed
trips to occur more frequently. The world wide web is full of information waiting to be
found – virtual field trips open a whole new door of information to students who may
not be able to afford the opportunity to go on an in person field trip.
 What are some of the negative aspects of doing this kind of field trip? I believe the
biggest negative aspect from doing a virtual field trip is not being able to ask questions
directly from the source. Of course, a teacher is a source, but in an in person field trip,
students would be allowed to ask questions to people who may be more educated on the
subject. Another negative aspect is that the children do not get to go out into the world
and experience the field trip hands on – it is done through technology and although that
is great, there is something special about experiencing something eye to eye.
 Would you do a lesson that involves a virtual field trip in your class after participating in
this one? This is the first time I have heard of a virtual field trip. Now that I know that
they exist, I am wondering why I was never presented the opportunity as a student.
Field trips open a new world to students, and I believe the experience of a virtual field
trip and not having to leave the classroom provides so many opportunities. So, I would
most definitely incorporate a virtual field trip into my lessons more often than not.
